Since installing 5.1 two of my regular routes have changed dramatically - unfortunately the routes are neither shortest or fastest and completely ignor the obvious, straightest route.

Anyone got any theories?

If you can, please post the start and end points of the route.

RH10 7NB to RH20 2TB

I used to be routed via the A264 and A29

Now I'm routed B2110, A281, A272 and A29

Longer in distance and time...

Puzzled!

I use the TTG300 v5.20. Routing normally is spot on , but I live in a semi rural area, here the TTG300 tries ever so hard to route me down single car width country lanes - the speed you can go is never more than 10mph down these. Running the demo of the route TTG accelerates at this point to 49mph, lethal, if you drove like thast you'd be dead in no time! Laughing Out Loud

Try CF373PE to CF105ZA. It immediately goes right in to Rock Terrace, which after 200 yards is almost impassible rather than staying on the 2 lane B road. Running the demo of the route TTG accelerates at this point to 49mph, lethal, if you drove like that you'd be dead in no time! Laughing Out Loud. Many of my local journies do this. It is almost as if it it is choosing the shortest route in preference to my setting of quickest.

In my local area it is not such a problem, but when I was on hols recently it did make me a bit nervous as to which route it would take.

It sounds like it's one of those cases where the wrong speed tag has been put on the road by TeleAtlas. Because of this TT sees this as a quick road and therfore shortest in time.

It occurs to me how useful it would be to be able to change that speed tag on roads. This would enable you to add local inteligence, where you know that despite it being an A road, because it is in a major shopping area it is limited to 25% of the normal limit for that designation - when you normally use it.

The route would then perhaps avoid it.

You wouldn't want to put TeleAtlas and Navteq out of their job, would you? 8)

Judging by the quality of their latest map updates, they don't appear to be doing their job anyway.

Wouldn't it be good if a SatNav vendor could build a way for us to map roads for them - or maybe enhance the existing data. It would give the most up-to-date information for them, could reky on multiple users mapping the same thing to ensure accuracy and the data collected would have a significant commercial value.

Imagine how much TomTom could charge teleatlas and navteq to provide mapping updates to their existing data. They could even start to collect the Southern Ireland road network Rolling Eyes
