This issue has been discussed more than once in the past couple days. This happens when you have a device that has a built-in keyboard, or an external keyboard (even if not connected).

Tomtom will check if a hardware keyboard exists, if it does, then it'll disable the software-keyboard.

If you have an external keyboard, then you will have to remove the keyboard driver for it to work.

you know i recently wrote to support and they said the same thing. while i can understand it i would still say that the feature is a bug. the software keyboard always worked in spite if the built in one. it's only since tomtom 2004 that they decided to take that feature out of the software. seems like it should be easy enough to fix.

Is it possible to disable the keyboard without removing the driver?

I was able to disable the external keyboard, however TomTom still didn't put the onscreen keyboard on

In the registry is a reference to keybrd.dll or something similar, I renamed that key and it stop the external keyboard from working after reset

Maybe its a start, i'm not to sure how to proceed

This isn't true, the soft keyboard is not completely disabled. For example while in "Browse Map" if you click the Cursor Position button, then select Add As Favourite, you get an on-screen keyboard.

This indicates to me that the missing keyboard on other screens is a bug rather than a feature, and TomTom should really get a fix out for this asap since they can't advertise their software as been compatible with the I-mate pda2k/m2000/xda2 with this broken...

Have just discovered this on upgrading to my XDAIIs and it is just plain BAD! (all this after a ridiculously long amount of time spent faxing/emailing TomTom to let me transfer my old TT3 licence from my Dell Axim)

BTW there appears to be a little scam.

I installed my old TT2 software but didn't activate (because I was waiting for them to get their finger out). When I complained I was waiting so long and was eager to get on and upgrade to TT5 I was told to just install TT5 anyway as the activation is totally seperate

SO does this mean had I used any old "backup copy" of TT3 and then purchased the £47 upgrade that I would have the full version operating, for just the price of the upgrade?

im in the same boat here can not believe that tomtom would make such a simple mistake. lets hope they can sort this out asap.

this is a link to a xda2s developers forum and they have no answers as of yet.
