I'd like for my IPaq to go to sleep whenever I turn off the car. For this, I need the pinout for the docking port underneath.

Does anyone know where I might find this?

The pinout won't help - this is purely a OS feature. Plus, the programs need to respect the settings. (TomTom for example doesn't)

On a slightly different note - you should rethink if you really want to leave the 4700 in the car. You may have two of them when you come back.

There is possibly a 'sleep' line, which would be very nice. Or maybe there's access to one or more of the hot-buttons, which I could connect in software to the sleep function. (through Media Player, which does work)

It is possible brother. I just need the pinout.

About leaving it in the car, I'm more afraid of having NONE when I come back... but am planning a measure of camouflage. It's helpful that the 4700 is a similar color to my dash.

BTW, I'm getting away from Winduhs as soon as I can.

That's what I was saying, wasn't I?

You should be able to get the pinout from HP.

I didn't think you'd said that, but...

HP requires you to enter a goddam serial number to enter a support 'request', but I don't have my unit yet. So I guess it'll just have to wait.

The pin out is on the net in many places.

You probably will not find anything on 4700.
Look for 3800.

But I am afraid you will not find what you are looking for.

Here is a German page with the pinouts for both the old and new connectors.
There is no "Sleep" pin though.

On the subject of leaving your PDA in the car possibly in a PDA mount.

Try this:

Buy a kleenex box - the smaller square ones, not the alrge rectangular ones.

Now remove the bottom and take out all the tissues. Cut a half tissue and place it partly in the top slot so that the box looks like it is full of tissues and one is half out.

Now keep this in your car - when you go out simply slide your tissue box over your pda on it's mount. If the mount is strategically located it will look more like you have a tissue box mounted on your dash.

Then again maybe just put your PDA in the glove compartment when you are out - I have lost one PDA this way already. On the plus side insurance did replace my toshiba e570 with a new HP 4700 so I cant complain!

i would not recommend that you leave in the car unless you have a security system like total recall, as there are far to many theifs.
