Hello All!

I'm a noob, but finding my way quite quickly Smile

I drive a Mondeo and wanted to get into SatNav but I'd read about the heat-reflective and/or heated windscreens cutting down the satellite signals too much.

I fancied the Mio 168 with TTN3 but was concerned about the reception, particularly when GlobalPositioningSystems said that I'd definitely need an external aerial with a heated windscreen. Other users had said they need to position the device near the A-pillar where there are no elements in the glass (but this makes routing the power lead awkward Sad )

So I bought it from Expansys because they bundled the external aerial.

Anyway, got it yesterday and on my run into work this morning, I'm delighted with the reception and performance of the Mio. I was getting 7 or 8 satellites all the way into work even with the device positioned in the centre of the windscreen.

Well chuffed - I don't know why I've waited this long Smile

That's good to hear, it sounds like you don't have an athermic windscreen if you're able to use it without ext antenna. Mondeo's do have a heat coil windscreen, this can affect signals but no where near as much as an athermic (UV Coated) windscreen, and you may see a degredation (only slight) when the heated windscreen is on.

Most cars that have an athermic windscreen are french built, e.g. Peugeot, Renault etc.
