I agree with most of the posts here, Although TomTom are partly to blame Teleatlas are the ones who supply TomTom with the maps, It would be helpfull if TomTom stated the version numbers of the maps on on both their website and retail boxes, Also online retailers should state the version numbers of the products too. I have found that Navteq are more upto date than Teleatlas as I previously had a Garmin i3 (which use Navteq maps) I have also had a TomTom one with map version v605 and found that their were alot of missing roads and alot of unnamed roads. Their is a new road near were I live, It is less than a year old and was on the Garmin i3. I now have a TomTom 510 and the new road is now on but is not named it is stated as 'unnamed road' it was named on the Garmin i3 surely if they add a new road to their maps they should know the name of the road. I am very happy with my TomTom 510 but would be alot happier if they switched map providers and used Navteq. Although Navteq aren't perfect they are alot more upto date with their maps

Thanks guys for the warnings. 2 year map chargable map updates isn't very good!

I'll try to find out what the other mapping company are who supply the data.

Would be a disaster if the 910 maps got out ;) nudge nudge

Not likely to happen though with the level of copy protection that TomTom uses. When you buy your map, it is personalised to the individual device code of your satnav, and can't be activated in any other unit. So you can copy maps to your heart's content and put them in any other unit. You can buy maps dirt cheap on E-bay and they can be installed on any unit. The only thing you can't do is activate them!!

yes they are naff, still loads of missing roads for stevenage, herts
and taking you up a road that is a dead end.

TomTom quotes "TomTom works with TeleAtlas maps"

now i would be keeping that to myself.

Ive recently downloaded the latest map for my TomTom One. I feel extremely cheated!
There appears to be no updates on my version apart from the version number!

The A127/A130 split is still messed up, Chelmsford still hasnt got the bus only road marked and Nottingham is still a mess!

Is there a simple list somewhere of the updates that have been made?
Is it within my rights to ask for a refund?

Tc

New to this game, only had my TT One v.2 since Christmas 06 (ie a week or so) but it's already tried to direct me up a road in Mansfield, Notts that is a buses only route, with No Entry and One Way signs for all other traffic... Doh! Sad and it's only been that way for about 15 years or so, so can't be described as a new change!

My enquiry to TT.

"I have just bought the new western Europe map and installed it. I have also had to purchase a new SD card. A major road network change at Heathrow Airport, that I drive through twice a day, is not included in the package. This change has been in place for six months now, so my question is, why is it not included? When will it be included? Am I entitled to a free upgrade when you finally map the changes? For the record, the new road network is not even recognised and roads that no longer exist are still used when the TT calculates routes. These changes are at the south-east end of the airport near Hatton Cross. This is a major route that is used by thousands of people a day, many not regular users".

Still waiting! Sad

6 months isn't long enough for a new road to make it into any gps system...

The time taken from the road being 'created' to ending up in the gps map is much more likely to be in the order of 12 to 18 months by the time all the data has been generated, collated, converted to the map product, issued to the gps manufacturer, update published.

The bypass round Ashton-under-Lynne had been in place for over a year when I got my TomTom One last Christmas. I bought an updated map in November 1006 and it still wasn't on. These major projects are in the public domain for years before completion, and I find 18 months to 2 years unacceptable.

No wonder, they hadn't even started the doomsday book at that point Smile

(Sorry, bored at work and couldn't resist...)

Any how: Can anyone give a definitive answer on how long it does take new roads to make from being opened to being included on the map data sets?

I still reckon my 18 months is probably (sadly Sad ) on the short side of reality...

What would be nice is an option where you can say to your little TT right this is a new road so take a track log and stick that in as a user added road or something along those lines.

I doesn't even seem to be consistent!
Some roads appear within 6 months, some are on the new map before they have even been opened, but mostly you hear on the forums of 18 months plus.

For what it's worth, the roads around us are three years old and they are not on my 910. But then again, we do do live in the constantly changing Milton Keynes.

Hi

I have been using Westren Europ map ver 660.1256 which a nav taq map and so far I have not notice any errors on my area ( West Midlands )

Before i had a TeleAtlas map which has a lots of errors and many roads missing

So I strongly Recommend the 660.1256 as its more up to date
