Hi; I have a week old Navman and was testing it out on a few local journeys before heading further afield next week. Today, en route from Mill Hill to Watford, the unit tried to steer me through the London Gateway M1 Service Station access road, which is clearly signed as "No Entry to Unauthorised Traffic".

Is this sort of 'short cut' common in the Navman maps? I humoured the unit and followed it's directions to that point, even though I knew where it was taking me would be wrong. I'm kind of concerned that tomorrow, it'll try to do the same on the way to Liverpool and Manchester, where I'm headed tomorrow on a week long business trip.

Overall, I've been pleased with this unit until today, but I'm now thinking seriously that I should return this and exchange it for something more reliable.

Does anyone have similar issues and have you been successful exchanging a Navman 510 for something else? If so, what would you recommend?

Jeremy

Having had an iCN630 for nearly 2 years, you get used to the sort of problem you have just experienced. If you know it's wrong then ignore the instruction and let the unit work out a different route to get you back on track.

If you look through the Navman Forums (or any of the others ) you find many similar instances posted by other users. I suppose one of the most frustrating things I find is when it tries to take you down lanes so narrow that your wing mirrors touch the hedge on either side. Now when I get to these I drive past them and it very quickly works out an alternative route.

Quite frankly I don't think changing your Navman for something different will stop you from experiencing these types of problem. I'd stick with it.

Have a good trip Laughing

Regards

I've found a few of these. When I do, I simply add an "Avoid" box to the road in question. It's possible that all TeleAtlas offerings suffer from this.

Alfie, thanks for the info. I was so tempted to say 'ah, get lost' ... but I guess that's been said several (times) before in these forums.

More seriously, I checked with my brother-in-law, a Navman user for 3+ years - he keeps coming back home ok, so I think I will keep the unit based on both of your advice.

Cheers again,

Jeremy
