Speed limiting using GPS

This may have already been undertaken but I have recently purchased a Co-Pilot an it is not available on that.



I suggest the production of a database of speed limit against location. With this in place it should be possible to issue a warning if the vehicle is travelling over the speed limit (or a user set threshold based on it).



Getting really carried away, why not tie this is with a cruise control or speed limiter system. My guess is that the majority of speeding offences are purely because the driver is unaware they are breaking the speed limit due to lack of attention or concentration.



If this is to be relied upon then it is crucial that the information is kept up to date. Of course if it were not then it would be no defence to breaking the law.



I'm sure that I am not the first to have thought of this, so I sit back and wait for the "this is available on the ...." replies.
