Can't input address in TT3

I've a Mio 168 with Tomtom 3 which I have been very pleased with.
unfortunately I have started having a problem when trying to use the Navigate to option
When I select 'Address' it brings up the list of the previously used towns, but when I try to input a new location by typing the name, the list dissapears and the last location is highlighted at the top and will not go away.
I am unable to get beyond this screen.
Any ideas please?
