I've been trying to get some answers from TomTom regarding their SDK but to date have not received the promised reply from their techy. I'm wondering if anyone here can help..

Licensing Question :-
1. When I purchase the SDK, what distribution rights does this give me ? Can I then redistribute the core interop dll free of charge with my product ?

Technical Questions :-
1. Can I add a POI to the map using the SDK ?
2. What data is used to locate a POI ? OS Coordinates ?
3. Can I Add/Change the itinerary using the SDK ?
4. When adding a location to the Itinerary, a screen is displayed giving me options to add Home, Address, Recent Location etc. Can I extend this screen with additional items, for example 'Add location from customer database' ?
5. I heard there will be a .NET version of the SDK available soon. Is this true ? If so, when ?

cheers

Nick

1. yes, you can redistribute the runtime

1. POIs can be added, but not to the map. Only to the custom POI collections
2. Lat/Lon

dunno about the rest.

The v5 SDK should come out later this year. until then you are limited to v3 users (the v3 SDK won't work with v4 or v5)

The SDK User Guide is downloadable from the support section of the TomTom web site. Hopefully that will cover more of the technical questions.

You can show a POI on the map - you add it and then show it (two separate operations).

You can build itineries using the SDK (not sure about editing existing ones cos I've not done it).
Again, don't know about the Itinery options menu, but you can change the Location-Sensitive menu if that's any help at all.

V5 SDK about May time, .NET SDK about September time. That's what I got told about a week ago by their business product manager. I wouldn't quite accept that as cast in stone, though...

Thanks for the replies. I specifically want to take whatever the current planned route is and be able to modify it using the SDK. I figured the easiest way to do this would be to modify the current itinery.

Is the V5 SDK going to have .net interfaces/classes then ?

The first V5 SDK will just be a V5 version of the current one (With little new functionality). In September there will be a .NET one with additional functionality. I don't know if this will be in the form of proper classes (hopefully!) or just a wrapper for the existing one.

Have a look at http://www.tomtom.com/business - they are also planning a few other business-orientated tools which may be useful to you. I know the mass-activation one is going to very useful.
