Isn't it typical? I have had an article prepared for a few weeks to co-incide with the release of the latest version of the TomTom Navigator for Palm software and the upgrade is released whilst I was away on business for a week.

Well anyway I am back now and the article has been released. Many TomTom Navigator for Palm users were asking why the new TomTom GO software was not available for the Palm Platform, and rightly so as it uses the same core functionality set. Well TomTom have now released this and it can be downloaded for free from the updates page on the TomTom site.

As far as we are concerned the most interesting part of the upgrade is the ability to use User Customisable databases. Click here for our article on Customisable POIs.

Now that this functionality is available on the TT Go and also the Palm version, have we heard any more of when this will be available on the standard PDA Version or are we expecting March for a launch a CEBIT?? Rolling Eyes

Customisable POIs have been available on the PDA version of navigator for a long time. The only thing missing is the Warning system. Having said that the 3rd party add-ons offer far superior functionality to that Provided by TomTom.

I can't upgrade to 4.4 to my palm - I get the “Internal problem (2). Cannot run Conduit. Please run Setup again."

I am running Palmdesktop 4.1.4: and reinstalled it for good measure

Help.

I had a problem installing the upgrade also. It wasn't the same as yours, but anyway the upgrade didn't installed in mine Tungsten. I fighted with it for a few hours until I realised mine Palm Desktop was installed in D: drive (normal hard-drive but not the same Windows was installed). I have not had any problems with it before, but now I decided to try to install Palm Desktop to C: drive and after that everything worked perfectly. I don't know where yuors Palm Desktop is installed, but you may check it!

I've just managed to sort it I hope - I repaired my palm desktop installation and everything is hot syncing at this very moment.

You could try the following from an earlier post of mine

Dave

------------------

I had exactly the same problem - I couldn't install 4.10 either

I've done some investigation and it seems that TomToms installer has a bug with paths that have spaces in them.... like, Documents ans Settings
exactly where they tell you to put the program!

You can solve the problem in a couple of ways

Firstly ensure that you have a card with TomTom navigator maps on UNLOCKED (i.e write enabled) in the SD slot

1. Unzip the update and ensure that it's path contains no spaces
e.g. Put it on C:\palm_ttnav4120_eur

then run as directed

2. Copy the files manually...
Unzip the update to a suitable directory and run Setup.exe
Don't worry about hotsyncing

The update consists of 5 files

Start.prc is located in the directory
palm_ttnav4120_eur\palmos\starter

The other 3 files are located in navigator.cab in the following directory
palm_ttnav4120_eur\palmos

Use a cabinet file extractor to expand this archive
(e.g. the freeware Zipnall compression program)
you should get the following files

0000data.003
000start.001
00munich.002
NAVIGA~1.000

The navigator.ini file contains the correct file names for these

File000=setup.dat
File001=start.prc
File002=Munich.bin
File003=data.chk

so rename as follows

rename 0000data.003 to data.chk
rename 000start.001 to start.prc
rename 00munich.002 to Munich.bin
rename NAVIGA~1.000 to setup.dat

notice that Start.prc is also contained in here.. we don't need it since we already have the file

Make a backup copy of the existing Munich.bin, setup.dat, & data.chk files in the TomTom directory on your SD card

To Upgrade just copy Munich.bin, setup.dat, & data.chk to the TomTom directory on your SD card overwriting the old files

Phew!

As you can see it's easier to use the TomTom upgrade process, but I find it's always usefull to know whats going on - just in case....

Hope this of use to someone

Dave

Hello,

Thank you very much to Dave (or Falkien).
I spent a lot of time. No useful help from Tomtom support.
Fortunately, I have found your post ... and it works (even for the version 4.4). I had just to search where the tomtom installation software put the navicator.cab file (in my case in a TomtomMaps folder).

Thanks again !

Being a new user I may be asking a question thats been asked before. I have very little space on my SD card and so I cannot update the camera POIs. Having looked at the contents of the card, I see that there are quite a few files that appear to be 'recovery' type files i.e. DATA00.chk to DATA15.chk then DATA18.chk and 7 others. They take up quite a bit of space on my SD card. So the question is - can I delete one or all of these files (after suitably backing them up of course).
Also I noticed that when I first put the Camera details on the SD card it became full - I deleted a few files, but the free space was not recovered (or at least it appeared not to recover) is there a way to check up and resolve this problem ? - If I cannot find any space, can I buy a bigger SD card and transfer everything from one to the other (via my PC) with no problem ?
Thanks in advance !

You cannot delete any of the datann.chk files these are crucial to the operation of the system.

Realistically you have 2 options:
1 delete the voice files not required (usung the install app from the CD)
2 Buy a new 256Mb SD card and install the system on there (from the CD) then apply the latest updates from the TomTom web site.

The later would be the prefered option.

The Speed camera POIs are. Fortunately for you guys in the US there are not too many cameras around. Though I did see some red light ones when I was in Phoenix last.

We have a number of POI sets for the US. You can find them on the TomTom POI page. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtompoi.php
