Just to let you know, I've just finished creating a brand new, step by step guide that will help you create your own tomtom voice files.

It literally is step by step and provides screen shots too!

I hope you all like and benefit from it! Laughing Laughing

I've been searching and searching for this, so I thought I'd ask the experts!
I'm not too au fait with using command prompts, so I'm getting a bit stuck with viftool.

What I really want to do is increase the level of the voices by 25%. I'm pretty happy with the standard voices, I just need them to be a bit louder (I'm using Tomtom Mobile on a Sony Ericsson phone, and it's kind of getting drowned out by the background noises like music etc, especially at motorway speeds.)

I've created a folder called Tomtom Voices under the C: drive, and put the voice I'm testing this on as a folder in there, as well as viftool -
C:\Tomtom Voices
\86_Robot (the folder of the voice I am testing)
\data86.chk and data86.vif

I really don't get how to split the .vif file into it's component 59 parts using viftool and the command prompts.

Would a kind someone compile an idiots guide?!

Once I'm past this stage I'm sure I can use some kind of ogg editor to increase the volume. It may even be the case that I can batch edit it....

Keep up the good work guys!

hello the only thing i have tried is the tomtom so i don't know if you could make voices for other sat nav's.

You would be able to make voice with text to speech but it would be quite difficult but you could try.

It is possible to alter the nav voices on the Garmin i3 unit see Ash10's posting on This Page. If you do mess around creating your own audio files make sure they are of the correct file format and sample rate - Mike

You probably need this page - http://xiph.org/downloads/

The Download could be this one - http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/vorbis/vorbis-tools-1.1.1.zip

I'm no expert. Just guessing.8O
