Newbie- questions about Garmin eTrex Vista C features

I have two questions and would be grateful for any feedback

On the trip computer there is a data field that shows “trip time stopped” the manual states “the length of time that the vehicle is stationary” I have a 3D fix, accuracy of 26 ft and a speed of 0mph and the “moving time” is still ticking away. Could it be a faulty unit?

Also

On the setup menu there is an option in the “Heading Setup” page, the option “switch to compass heading when below ?? Mph” “for more than ?? Sec”

This to me says when for example my speed drops below 20 Mph for more than 30 seconds the compass will automatically be displayed. I can not get this to happen, does this feature only work when navigating or again could there be a problem with my unit?

I’m hoping that its user error. The unit is new and only a week old and the manual isnt the best for a newbie
