Are you following these to the letter:
Quote:
Installation Instructions
To install, download the correct package type that matches your safety camera download type, i.e if you use the 'Consolidated by type' version of the database you will need the 'Consolidated by type' sound file set.

TomTom GO, ONE, RIDER and PocketPC
Version 7 Users Please Read Additional Notes Below

Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file and copy these to the map folder on your device. The suitably named ogg files should be placed into the map folder where your POI’s are located, do not put them in a sub-folder.

With the files in place start the TomTom and go to Change Preferences/ Manage POI/ Warn when near POI (this MUST be done even if your camera POI’s have been previously configured).

Select the first camera in the list, if asked whether you want to delete or remove the warning answer NO.

You should now be asked to select the warning distance, followed by the Warn Only if POI on route – please set-up these options as per your normal preference, remember everyone will use different settings dependent upon how they use the device.
If the ogg files are correctly installed you WILL NOT be asked to select a specific sound.

Now repeat the above, setting up the POI warning for EACH camera category you have installed to the device.

TomTom models with text-to-speech capabilities only (910, 520, 720 etc):

In order to use the ogg files you must select "Sound Effect" when configuring your POI Warnings:

But again, if the ogg files are correctly installed you WILL NOT be asked to select a specific sound.

Version 7 Note:

With the arrival of Version 7 there is a small bug that affects the procedure. You will be asked to choose a sound but will not be offered any options! You will be asked 'Is this the sound you want?'. You MUST answer Yes on this screen. If you do, you will then see the warning distance screen and can proceed as normal.

If you mistakenly answer No then you will get a message saying No Photographs and the unit will hang. If you have mistakenly done this, simply reset the device and start again, this time answering Yes when prompted.

i know u said the data.chk file is only for tomtom 5, but when i did swap it the menus where messed up, but when i set the warning distance/sound it did play the .ogg files.

Confused...If you installed the data.chk there wouldn't be any ogg files to play.
Anyway, it's not supported any more, and there's no versions for recent software, so you really need to work out where you're going wrong with the ogg set-up. It does work....

I have just downloaded/installed the newest update for my TomTom520 and discovered that TomTom have "programmed out" all the custom voices!!! Not only that but Home has two bugs. The first is it keeps asking to disconnect/reconnect when I connect my Go and the operate my TomTom does not work anymore! Some update. I have of course contacted Support and so far none of their suggestions work. Anybody else encountered these problems?javascript:emoticon('Evil or Very Mad')

I can assure you it has far more bugs than that Laughing - seriously though can you tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box on the right hand side of the screen and write down what version you have got installed - please post that up then I will see if I have that version available to try - Mike

Hi,

Have just bought my 1st sat nav unit today - a TT720 for £154 using the voucher discount for Comet.

I have spent quite a lot of time over the last few weeks reading through various help guides on this forum familarising myself with what I need to do, so thought I was well prepared!

What I have done so far today is...

-d/l latest version of TT Home from the TT website & installed on my PC
-connected TT720 & switch on
-backed up data manually
-ran updates to update to latest version of firmware + GPS fix
-d/l & installed a few extra POI's e.g. BP garages
-signed up here & d/l the 'full' speed related camera info for Europe & UK
-Unzipped & copied across the files to the TT720
-Went through the manage POI's & set each camera warning up one by one (set to full spoken warning).

All of the above seemed to go ok. However, I subsequently found the info about the need to d/l & install the separate ogg files, which I then did.

-Went through the manage POI's & set each camera warning up one by one AGAIN(!), BUT could only set to 'full spoken warning', as if I chose the 'sound effect' option, only various items such as 'cow' & 'bell' were shown, so I couldn't choose any other option re ogg files.

I have just been for a drive around the block to test it out & the TT720 does read out warnings for spead camera's but I'm not sure it's using the ogg files. As an example the type of warning is:

"PocketGips UK Gatso 200 yards, next opportunity 14 miles"

Is this right or am I doing something wrong?

The list of related files in my Western_Europe directory are:

pocketGPS_uk_gatso_20.bmp
pocketGPS_uk_gatso_20.ogg
pocketGPS_uk_gatso_20.ov2
pocketGPS_uk_gatso_30.bmp
pocketGPS_uk_gatso_30.ogg
pocketGPS_uk_gatso_30.ov2

& so on, for all camera types/speed bands + the same again for Europe cameras e.g.

pocketGPS_eur_gatso_20.bmp
pocketGPS_eur_gatso_20.ogg
pocketGPS_eur_gatso_20.ov2
pocketGPS_eur_gatso_30.bmp
pocketGPS_eur_gatso_30.ogg
pocketGPS_eur_gatso_30.ov2

Please could anyone offer some advice?

With ogg files on the device you need to select "Sound effect" when configuring the warnings, when the unit asks "Is this the sound you want to select" answer YES even though it doesn't actually play anything - this is a known bug within the Navcore 7 software - Mike

Thanks for the reply - so if I understand correctly, I select any of the options e.g. 'bell' or 'whisltle' but it will actually play the ogg file instead?

BTW, forgot to add in my original post that I obviously removed all of the Tom Tom speed camera files before copying across the PWGPS files.

If the ogg files are in the current map folder you will not be offered the selection of sound type to play, can you check you have matching file names for the ogg files and ov2 files in your map folder - Mike

I've checked & I have maybe found the problem...

I only had the UK ogg files - I have now d/l the Europe ogg files, although I found you have to be VERY careful as the ogg files don't always match up to the bmp/ov2 files that you d/l from the PWGPS database, so a fair amount of attention to detail is needed in terms of scrutenising all speed camera files to ensure you actually have 3 or each time of camera file - basically, I ended up deleting the UK & Europe pmoblie files as I couldn't be assed to d/l & install a further pmobile ogg (+not that bothered about unconfirmed sites) + there were certain inconsistencies elsewhere like ogg files for europe mobile variable, but no bmp/ov2 files for this camera type, so deleted the bmp/ov2.

After the above was completed I was then able to go through all of the camera POI's in the TT720 & set them to sound effect (I accidently hit no & got the 'No Photographs' freeze once but managed to reset once I'd found something small enough to get to the reset button!).

I haven't tested it out yet as it's now too late, but hopefully everything is ok now.

Thanks for the help

I am just updating all my voices links after upgrading my GO700 to the new maps and have a few queries

1. When resetting a sound I am offered a set of icons - but they are so sized as all I can see if the first part of the name (eg pocketp.... )and cannot see the specific part of the name. Any ideas?

2. I have found a type of camera I cannot recognise - pmobile. How is this different to mobile and has there been an upgraded list of voice messages since I first downloaded the files some time ago? If there are can someone please send me a link?

3. Similarly, I am going travelling on holiday to Europe soon and wondered if there are any voices to match the "eur" cameras. If there are can someone please send me a link?

Thanks in anticipation!

Have you read the installation instructions on our sound alerts page? If you place them in the correct folder you don't need to select them as it's automatic.

If you have them in the sounds folder then you might be better renaming them to shorten the file name.

Also you will also find pMobile and EUR options on the sound alerts page. As for an explanation of pMobiles, this is provided on the camera download page to the right of the download box.

Follow the link in my signature for the links.

Sorry to be a right pain in the a**e but the only download link I can find on your page is for the UK cameras.

Where can I download the continental cameras "Kate" as I can find no link.

Half way down you will see a "Text to Speech “Kate” Euro Camera Alerts" section.

Using a TomTom ONE v2 here, for some reason cannot get the speed camera OGG files to be recognised , have downloaded and installed to the corect folder but when selecting the "manage pois option " and then " warn when near POI " I only get the option off selecting any off the original sound files ie. Bell 1, Bell 2 etc and not the new OGG file.

have deleted the original OGG files and re-installed but still the same problem, tried overwritting them but again still no joy, any ideas ??

using software version 7.162 and am aware off the Bug that affects this particular version ie. no photgraphs found etc unfortunatly cant even get that far yet !!!

cheers
