I have just received my copy of Tom-Tom Nav 1 after an impulse purchase from Navcity, my problem is I have not brought my PPC yet! I am intending to buy the Dell Axim when I have convinced the wife we need one

What I would like to know is what else will I need to buy to use the software?

If you could give me some pointers as to what brands etc are good I would be grateful.

Thanks

I have just spoted this ">Is this any good would that be all I need to get or is there something else, I have seen lots of mention of the Holux 270? is this the same thing?

I should point out that I posted here because I intend to get the free upgrade to v2 and was not sure if it changed the hardware requirements.

Thanks

Copey when you say you purchased TomTom Navigator 1, that was the complete hardware bundle including the GPS Receiver ? If so, all you need is the cable for the Dell Axim X5.

You shouldn't need to purchase anything else, the cable will not only power the GPS Receiver but the Dell also. If you haven't purchased the complete hardware bundle (just the software), then you will need to purchase a Leadtek 9531 with this cable, or any other GPS receiver will do including the Holux.

My bad sorry.

I purchased the Software only on the spur of the moment after reading a few posts on here. I have never used any type of gps device before so this is a bit of a minefield for me at the moment, any help is most welcome.

Sorry to make such comment.

It sounds like someone has bought s satellite TV subscribtion, but has no satellite receiver or EVEN a television at home ! The subscription cost probably £150 for the year but the receive/TV will cost you a further £500.

Just as you have bought the TT, you need to spend another £400 upwards for GPS/PPC.

A study on this site may give you more idea on what you can expect and what next you have to buy.

What do you need apart from the software. Well other than a PPC, a GPS and suitable leads...Nothing. :D

Seriously. You have bought the bit that is the least expensive, it's uphill from here. It depends on the PPC you get as to which GPS will be suitable. For a stand alone GPS I have a Garmin III+. I like Garmins and have used a few different models of them over the years. Prices from around £100 to £1000. PPC wise I prefer the Ipaq as it seems more flexible. It will accept accessory jackets as well, one being a GPS. Though I believe the jacket type of GPS are not the best of the GPS's around shall we say. Connecting lead will be around £20.

If you are using it in the car, you will probably need a mounting kit as well.

Finally a big bunch of flowers and a box of chocs to try and keep the wife happy after spending all that.

Bob.

Take Heart

Having already gone through the process of convincing my wife that we should become GPS dependable, I was amazed when she said the other day "If we ever get divorced I'm having the GPS system".
