Emtac sleeve and external antenna

Hi, Sorry for what seems an elementary question

Have an emtac sleeve with iPaq 3870 and running Tom Tom 3 and CheckPoint.net. Like a previous writer the sleeve tends to lose the signal and then takes ages to find it again. It also seems to hang around one or two bars. Have purchased an external antenna with MCX connector, but this does not seem to fit into the external socket on back of the sleeve. The user guide for the sleeve says the socket is female. Could I have a female connector on the antenna or is there something else I'm missing? Would appreciate any help.

Did you purchase a MCX antenna made by EMTAC?

No I don't know what make it is, but it is very similar to the one pictured in the user guide. I thought that any MCX connector would do?
