My TomTom GPS BT kit has arrived and I am very pleased having taken it out in a spin in West London. It doesn't know that short-cuts but it will be very handy as soon as I get out my 'hood (especially south of the river).

I have hit a snag though - my fag lighter does not seem to be working in my Ford Puma. I tried the power cable, no response. Then I tried the lighter and it did not work. I wish I had had a smoker in my car so I would have had heads-up on this problem. Looks like I will have to get it fixed at the garage.

1) In the meantime, how long does the GPS receiver last for on full charge (not sure what make - it comes as part of the Global Positioning Systems BT bundle)?

2) Also, can you tell the GPS receiver battey level on TomTom?

3) What speed do people set the Safety display setting to?

Cheers,

WilberDaForce

I can only answer the last point, as I have different hardware to you. I set my safety speed to 30mph - I find that beyond that a moving map is just an unnecessary distraction. Other people have different views.

So far as your cigarette lighter goes, it may be worth checking the handbook to see which fuse the cigarette lighter comes from, and if that fuse has blown. If so, it may be worth changing the fuse - but only change it once and for a fuse of the correct rating. If that doesn't solve the problem and you don't feel confident with vehicle electrics, get professional help.

Yes, try changing the fuse. On my previous car (a Ford Ka) some years ago I had problems with charging my mobile phone from the socket. I mentioned this to the garage and they didn't fix the problem. However, I bought some fuses from Halfords (of the correct rating) from Halfords and swapped it out and hey presto it worked. Smile

The TT BT GPS receiver will do about 5 hours on a full charge. Unfortunately your IPaq won't last anywhere near as long as that, IME.

Hi again,

Yes it was the Fuse that blew! A nice mechanic at Acton Vale Motors diagnosed and changed it for me. I am good with gadgets, bad with mechanics.

5 hours for the battery on the receiver you say.

Is there anyway of knowing how much charge is left on it??

Will

There's a battery on screen that reduces in colour as battery becomes more depleated. There's no way though to tell how many hours are left, just an overall percentage of battery power remaining.
