Out of interest, what is the policy for shops in large shopping centres or pedestrianised town centres, where there is no obvious single point of access?

The most logical method of approaching such a POI would often be to park in one of the many public car parks (often unattached) surrounding the area and to walk from that point.

I'm think of something like an individual shop within, say, Milton Keynes shopping centre, which is surrounded by car parks and has many entrances into the centre itself.

There is no policy as such, to cover this scenario. I would suggest, with something like Milton Keynes, the nearest road from which one could find a suitable Car Park.

Pedestrianised Areas are difficult as most Satnavs won't navigate to/thro them. They might navigate you to a point close by, from where you may be able to find a Car Park. These locations are generally placed at, or near, the shop sites.

Where there is a Shopping Centre, with it's own Car Park, probably best to aim for the Car Park Access point.

It's a grey area, and you can never please everyone. Shocked

I'm trying to create a POI for The Caravan Club sites.

I've the latitude and longtitude , and the name, address and phone number.

Can I include this extra info so the phone number can be called from the iPhone version? I think I need to use the greater than character?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi smithgt,

If you're creating a POI for the Caravan Club, then I presume that you are already a member of the CC. The Caravan Club already has a set of POIs for popular SatNavs that can be downloaded from their "Satellite Navigation" page, here. Please note that you have to be a member of the Caravan Club to access the data.

Which SatNav software for the iPhone are you using, i.e. CoPilot, TomTom, etc? On normal TomTom SatNavs connected to a phone, the use of the greater than character allows you to call the telephone number allocated to the POI. I don't know if this works for TomTom iPhone.

Regards,

Hi I am a CC member, but their data is really bad - by that I mean that its Long and Lat are transposed, my nearest site is over 3000 miles away, and the site descriptions are truncated :-)

I'm trying to use this data on TomTom on the Iphone 4, so maybe thats the problem.

I've created a CSV which I've been able to convernt to OV2 online, but there must be a character limit for the name part.

What I've created now is a fle ....

0.11971 51.48635 Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site @020 8311 7708

This seems to work well.

I'll be fixing the CL's too if that helps anyone.

As you are using the iPhone app assuming its the current version (V1,7) the icon file for your POI needs to be 24 bit png format and is best resized to 44x44 for the iPhone4 otherwise it looks a tad small on the screen - Mike

I'm not a member of the CC myself, but an old work colleague was, and I ended up with the job of looking after his TomTom for him (doing updates, installing new maps etc.).

I remember installing the CC POI file for him, and he used it successfully on several holidays.

I'm afraid I don't have a copy of it, but it certainly WAS working OK.... I'd check your download and maybe try again.

I know that this thread is now quite old, but I wonder if PGPSW and Caravan Club members have seen that a full list of UK Club sites including Certificated locations for all types of GPS receivers is available here:
HERE

In addition, I have just finished producing an updated 2012 POI list of all the European inspected and contracted club sites in Europe (213 of them). You can PM me if you want further info. They are currently in csv (Navman) and ov2 (TomTom) format, but can be converted to other formats fairly easily.

Could PGPSW host your Euro list for you?
