hello,

Only an occasional visitor to the site so excuse me if this has been dealt with previously.

When I try and install my SmartMap software from the CD, it really troubles my PC. I can't browse the contents of either installation CD, it doesn't even sound like the drive spins up. If I put the disk in the drive, it takes ages for my computer to boot too.

I've flashed the CD drive firmware (Plextor 320A), uninstalled Drag-to-disk but still can't get my PC to work with the install CDs. It's a V1 iCN 630 and these are the original disks - they've been used about 18 months ago to install on a different PC.

Any help much appreciated...

Regards

If you don't have problems with other CDs then maybe the CDs have aged too much, or were manually burned with too weak of a signal. What color is the underside of the CDs?

I took a look...

...the discs look fine - they haven't discoloured and there is no physical damage. I thought it may be some quirk of the drive (it is a combo drive) but i don't have trouble with any other disks at all and I've flash it with the latest firmware.

The disks are 18 months old.

Do the disks read in another drive? Maybe your drive's calibration is slightly off...

Hi,

I've fitted a Toshiba DVD-RW I've been meaning to fit for about 6 months. That reads them fine, so it looks like the Plextor might be ready for the bin.

Thanks for your help dude.
