In the absence of a cable from PPC to GPS, I was going to try some simulations. But I can't.

Manual says 'tap on Show on map icon' (fine) 'then tap the Additional functions icon'.
Huh??? I don't seem to have one (and the manual doesn't say what this icon should look like either). IPAQ 2210, in Show on map mode, has:

Across the top

Hand: scroll/zoom
zig-zag: show multiple destinatiosn (I think)
Compass: True north, or direction of travel
'target': no idea!
3D: on/off

Down the right

- zoom,
zoom bar,
+ zoom,
Auto: ???

Across the bottom:
Return:
Logbook:
Warning:
GPS:
Windows:

So where has my 'additional functions' icon gone, or am I going (gone) mad?

add the waypoints to your itinerary, calculate the route, tap "Show on map" then tap the triangle to get the action list, and then select "Start simulation"

Glory be. Not quite what the manual says!!!!
My system's at home, so I'll print this and try it out. I don't have any waypoints, I was just trying to go from hospital (the last position I put in) to home.

I seem to have something different/missing - unless it's jsut that I still haven't got my GPS connected yet (cable imminent I hope).
I don't have a 'triangle' to click on, except for the 'back' button. I can't find any way to add a waypoint even if I wanted to. Looking at the review, after adding Vanguard road to Poole, the screenshot offers
Show on Map,
Save,
Set as Route Point.
But mine has the first 2, then Start Navigation instead of Set as Route Point.
What am I meant to do???

You MUST calculate the route before these options appear.

Er, but it won't let me!!!!
Unless I have the GPS attached, if I select a destination, it calculates the route (I assume, the little coloured segment wheel rotates for c. 15 secs) then it says 'A GPS signal is not available now. Navigation will start automatically whena GPS-signal is available'.

That's fine, but the only two options seem to be:
1. Wait for the GPS (ie go to my car)
2. Press the Cancel button, which seems to abort the calculation.

Surely there must be some way of checking routes etc at home before you get near the GPS (which is now permamnently wird in my car)?

Do you have added at least two waypoints?

From the initial menu, tap "Several destinations" then tap the plus sign, add a destination (add to itinerary), tap the plus sign again, add another destination, then tap the calculate route sign, tap calculate route again, then tap "Show on Map", then press the <enter> key, then select "Start Simulation"

Very intuitive, isn't it...

But I don't usually want to go to 3 places. I was testing it by seeing where it would take me if wanted to go home, and most of the time I just enter 1 destination. TomTom et al all allowed me to simulate anytime, as far as I recall.
If they've really limited simulation to >2 waypoints/trip, should I be taking this up with Navigon perhaps?

I'm beginning to think we must have different software (Mine's only just been bought, don't known the version etc but it's MNBE4 ). I started to follow what you said. Several destinations, add one, add another, add a third, press the 'calculate route sign' (when I'd worked out which it was), calculate again, then Show on Map. A map appears.
So far so good.
But where's an 'enter' key to press? I clicked on what I think is called the 'back' button (bottom left triangle - is this the 'triangle' referred to earlier?) and the I can quit map view or start simulation.

Don't understand how deJong can feel this is as good as TomTom. Admittedly I tried TT Go, but that software was useable without any manual. MNBE4 may be very powerful, but it's pretty obscure!

I'll leave my rant about TMC to another time.

Not correct. For a simulation without GPS attached you always need at least two points. I do however fully agree on the aspect of obscurity - it is not at all obvious that you need to add two destinations to your itinerary to make it simulate the route from one destination to the other destination. Calling the starting point a destination is poor terminology.

Is there any way to get the simulation to run at more than 22mph the whole way?

I don't think so. At least I haven't found the setting yet in the config files.
