Hi,
I just got my driver license and thought it might be interesting to gather some information on GPS navigation (glad I found this forum).
I don't really know what to go for, though. I've looked at the TomTom GO Scandinavia system (as I live in Denmark), but it's kinda steep 8O - we're talking £550 or so. Would this be a good choice? Is it updateable with new maps in case I need to travel south?
I've also looked a bit at TomTom's newest addition (TomTom MOBILE Scandinavia), as I happen to own a Nokia 6600 smartphone. This would be a much cheaper solution. What bothers me, though, is that you get the Scandinavia map and program data an MMC card, and I doubt that the data is changeable to other maps, right? You would have to purchase a new mmc card.
I could probably go on, but anyway, what what do you guys suggest?

You can always exchange the MMC cards with different maps.
A navigation system contains the following core components
- a display device (integrated, Pocket PC, Smartphone, Handheld) with voice output
- a GPS receiver (integrated, CF, BT, Serial, etc)
- GPS software (street navigation or topographical)
- (optionally) a mount for the display device
Now you can do an inventory of what you already have and what you need as a minimum... _________________ Lutz
As stated above I already have the Nokia 6600 phone, so as a minimum I need GPS software and a Bluetooth GPS receiver. As to mounting, the phone can sit on my lap for the time being. ;-)

Are you saying that it's possible to download new maps off the Internet and update the MMC card, or is the only option to buy a completely new one? I wouldn't even know where to get maps for southern Europe - I've only seen the Scandinavia MMC cards in Danish online shops. Maybe Amazon has 'em, who knows. ;-)
