Safety cameras - Smart STv3 install instructions

Installing the Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database to Smart ST v3, or any other Customisable POI's, is done via the Navman POI Editor accessed via the Smart ST Desktop. You need to be aware that the files for importing are .csv But a word of caution... the .csv file needs to be in a specific format or you will receive the error "Invalid file format" or "No POI's found in input file" If you get either of these messages you need to follow the steps below otherwise the file will not download to your device.

1) First, download POI Converter http://pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=105

2) Second, download the pocketgps_uk_sc file from http://www.pocketgpspoi.com/downloads/pocketgps_uk_sc.zip

3) When pocketgps_uk_sc file is downloaded, open it in Winzip and extract the pocketgps_uk_gatso.ov2 file. Also extract the pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp which is the camera icon.

4) Run POI Converter and browse to the location of the pocketgps_uk_gatso.ov2 file and open it. You will get the message:-

Input from C:\....\pocketgps_uk_gatso.ov2
3298 points read

5) Convert the file by saving as type... Autoroute Pushpins (*.csv) You will get the message :-

Output to ... C:\....\pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv
3298 points written

6) Open the new pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv in Notepad and delete the top line (latitude longitude name information) and save it again.

7) From the Navman POI Editor click File | Open Text File...
Browse to the location of pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv and double click it. The contents will now display:

8) Once the contents are displayed click File | Save to device... the POI Options window will open.

9) From the POI Options window ensure that Active is ticked. Also select the location of the icon to use in the Icon File box.

Click OK when you are happy with the settings. Another alert box will appear advising you name the file. Click OK.

A final alert box will appear advising you of the memory available and memory required to store the file on your device.

Click OK to complete the download.

I have found this to be the easiest way.
Once the correct file format is available as a download you ignore steps 3 to 6

Am a new iCN510 user and was pleased to find info on uploading POI's for cameras. The POI converter unfortunately is coming down corrupt Crying or Very sad

- does anybody else have this, or an already converted set of files?

I have just brought my 510 and after just doing all of the above i get a little pop up from POI Editor saying No POI's found in input file. Is this ment to happen or not and if not, what am i doing wrong

Can you open the .csv file using Notepad and tell me what the first two or three lines say please, including all spaces and characters?

OK, they aren't formatted properly. Taking just the first one, it needs to be in the format below.

-1.17579, 52.97946, "GATSO:4338@30"

I'm not sure how important the spaces are, but the quote marks around the GATSO:4338@30 MUST be there.

also, when i open it in the poi convertor i dont get this last past where is says 3298 point read. I get the rest though

Your problem is the name field. This should be encolsed in quotation maks as shown below:

-1.17579,52.97946,"GATSO:4338@30"
-0.73966,51.52095,"GATSO:4370@30"
-1.87357,50.71738,"GATSO:5079@30"
-2.8165,50.7319,"GATSO:5080@30"

Without the quotes Navman cannot recognise the information.

If you followed the instructions as posted, the conversion from ov2 to .csv should have added the quotes.

Looking at your file in Notepad you should see the quotes as shown in the screenshot in the first post above.

yep it's worked.

Another question. When i look at my navman and go to destination, then POI, and look at where i've saved my speed camera. How come it says there is only ( 1-8 of 50)

I thought there was afew thousand daved to the navman!

You may find those eight are GATSO:1 GATSO:1000 GATSO:1001 etc...

The others will be there but not visible. Try looking for GATSO:3* in the name field and see what is displayed.

looking at the map the camera's are all there, although there's afew missing around my area. Does anyone know how we can add new camera sites to this?

Try to get the lat/long coordinates of the missing cameras and also the name of the road the camera is on and e-mail them to cameras at pocketgpsworld.com
They can then be included in the next update.
