I was using a 256MB CF Sandisk card for my TT3 maps and it was working a treat, the card was borrowed from my digital camera so I decided to buy an SD card so I could put CF card back into my camera. I bought a 512MB SD card made by Peak, I copied all the stuff over from CF to SD and tried that, but after 5 minutes of using TT3 it hangs on me. After having a look around I heard it could be the make of card and/or the size of the SD card. I'd like you to tell me what make and size of SD cards I should get, or better still a solution why this SD card maybe causing TT3 to hang.

Thanks

Like Tim has said, I used to use TT3 with a Novatech 256 SD card and had frequent lock ups. Switched to a Panasonic and it stopped the lock ups.

Thanks xda, I'm get the impression that it's to do with the card and not the software even though the both of you have changed your navagation software. I would like a bigger card than 128 but I've heard that bigger cards can cause a problem too. What other brands of card are good?

Hi,

I used to use a 256MB Lexar SD card in my iPAQ 3970 for TTNav3, as you’ll see in my signature. The Lexar has always performed well.

However for the last fortnight I’ve been using a 512MB Kingston SD card, in the 3970, with no apparent problems.

Regards,

In TomTom's case it is both, TT3 makes heavy demands on the SD card such that certain brands have been known to cause lockups ie Sandisk. Panasonic and other quality cards don't give this problem. CP5 is much more tolerant and seems to work ok with Sandisk card.
I changed to CoPilot because for me it was a better package, more uptodate maps and database, and doesn't keep telling me it can't find such and such a place as TT3 was when going to a destination that I had been to before in TT2.

I have an XDA II and use 256M and 512M Kingston SD cards and I also have a 256M Viking SD card. All bought from ebuyer.com and work really well. I'm running TT3 as well as Memory-Map and have never had any problems.

Has anyone else got a 512 SD card working with TT3? I've seen someone with a 512 working with copilot. I'm thinking of getting the same 512 SD by Kingston from Ebuyer.

I have a 512M Panasonic SD card and that has been working since March without any problems with TT3 (in an Axim X5)

The best tip is to use a Japanese make of card

For moving between cards I just copied all the data from the old card onto the PC and then copied from there onto the new card

I can only echo advice earlier up the thread - that TomTom Navigator in particular puts heavy demands on SD cards, with the result that you'll see malfunctions with some 'bad' cards.

Most Sandisk cards cause problems - which is a nuisance as many brands are actually rebadged Sandisk.

For size, 512MB is getting to be very affordable now. You could contact ValueFlash and ask them what they're recommend. They used to say (if you asked politely in an email) which of their cards were rebadged Panasonic - but now that they stock Panasonic "own brand" they may be less forthcoming.
