the prices look competitive but I go along with MattB. I'm more interested in finding out when and what Software Upgrades are going to be made available for existing Navman users. I don't for one minute think that we will get the same deal as we did when V2 was released but it would be nice to think that the cost will be reasonable Exclamation

The prices are given on the press release:
1) Upgrade to V3 software with UK or single country maps £79
2) Upgrade to V3 software with European maps £149

Not sure when, though!

Dave, on balance does the 510 tip the balance in a TTgo/510/Co Pilot 5 head to head. Bearing in mind the convienience factor of the GO and the Co Pilot/Mitac package and the 510 all offering similar features?

I've always maintained that for the most part the software should dictate the decision. how do you see this now on these products?

I do prefer NAVTEQ maps over TomTom due to better accuracy in terms of data in the various layers.

For anyone that has or has used a Navman PiN 100, the 510 will feel very similar to this, pretty much identical but it does have newer software (obviously) and a different outer shell. The 510 is actually made by Mitac.

The new software is good, unfortunately I don't have access to the POI section yet, but I'm going to try and get hold of this next week all being well.

We're going to do a preview because we the software we have is a beta version, and we don't have things like Active POI's running on it.

I was told that the beta version we have does not support it, however it does appear in the menu but I just don't have technical information for instance which format the POI file needs to be in, how to import it, where to place the file etc.

The preview we have will be available hopefully in a few days (by end of the weekend hopefully). I'm trying to get that information, if I can I'll do an update to the review once I have had time to play around with it.

To my knowledge we are the only site and the only journalists to be playing with an iCN510 at the moment, so we do have an exclusive here. :D

Well the iCN 650 sounds great, it has all the features and price you would associate with a long-term investment in stress free driving but think twice if you want your SatNav to take advantage of Traffic and Travel Information, more specifically TPEG-TTI which will soon, if not already, begin to permeate the EU and other countries, considering today I can buy a Bluetooth enabled DAB radio for my car that can receive TPEG-TTI services it seems quite short sighted that anyone would bring out a new product, top in it's range, that cannot take advantage of that to dynamically re-route around traffic jams, accidents, road works, etc...

I would expect future developments of SmartNav to have the ability to process TPEG-TTI frames, however the iCN 650 will never be able to take advantage of those developments, making it in my opinion, a long term investment with a short term and crippled future.

Personally I think you are better to save your money on the best devices until they can communicate with each other, I would buy one today if it could but since a Bluetooth enabled PDA + GPS & nav software that can process TPEG-TTI frames will do more for less, I guess I won't.

PS: Given what TPEG-TTI will bring to the arena wouldn't Bluetooth have been more desirable that a remote control?
