Mike

there's no mention of it having any memory built in - so this would make it unusable with say tomtom as the pocketpc wouldn't have enough memory for maps.

Or have I missed something?

Looks a great product with zero usefulness!

Hi guys,

The device will be no different in functionality to a CF GPS.
If you only have an SD slot and are looking for a mobile GPS solution.

Even better, if you have a PocketPC with both CF and SD (iPAQ 2210) then you can have your device in one and memory in the other.

I am awaiting reply from Globalsat about the memory idea.

Bit worried about it being robust enough, it looks like it could easily break off from the card, or is there some form of securing mechanism?

The robustness of this device is a bit difficult to tell at the moment, until we actually have one in our hands. Hopefully we will have an early release for review soon. Watch this space.

There is a product like this out already from Japanese compnay I-O DATA.

think its called the IODATA SDGPS. I have seen it on amazon.co.uk and on www.iodata.com, but I dont think they have been released here. Looks like a fantastic idea as far as I am concerned, the Japanese one retailed for about £120

The device you see in the photograph attached to the SDIO GPS Receiver is a signal booster. The accessory is designed to be used with PDAs that have WLAN so it doesn't effect the GPS reception.

We have the first UK delivery of the SD-501 arriving in stock tomorrow (1 July 2004). The signal booster will not be available until a later date. Watch this space.

Thanks

I'm considering getting one of these for my new 2210 being delivered soon Thumbs Up

Now they've been out and about for a little while, does anyone have any feedback? I had mainly been concerned about the sterdyness of something being attached to the top of a thin SD card like connection. I can envisige me sitting on it and breaking it... 8O

Failing that, I'll get a CF GPS which will probably be a little more sterdy.
