Visual IT author the excellent 'Tube London' application. It's received many awards and is highly recommended.

I know of nothing similar for buses but then I lived in London for 7 years and never fathomed the Buses out!

It wont work with GPS (as far as I know) but I used something simply called 'Metro' on my PDA while in Washington. You enter where you are and where your going and it gives a variety of ways to complete your route. There is a 'map' for London and many other contries.

Having said that, I can't be sure it has busses on it... Confused

8) delboy, dont get ahead of yourself,i do know that gps does not work underground....duh.just as you would go through a tunnel the gps would give you an instruction before you enter the tunnel and on your exit, hence a similar application may be available for the london underground,i thought.I do have reason to believe there is such an application and that is why i joined the forum.

No not getting ahead of myself, just pointing out a fact.

The London underground is rather larger than a tunnel...duh.

Plus GPS is a Navigational aid for roads, not an underground rail system.

Although,,,, they DID use GPS for the Channel Tunnel,,,,to stay on course, but that cost more than 500.

I'm guessing you would actually be wrong there. Tom Tom might be a navigational aid for roads, GPS is a system giving your exact position on the planet, probably used by sailers and hikers before drivers made use of it.

Thumbs Up

I stand corrected Andy,

I meant it to mean "The way the intended use" of PDA and TomTom software.

Thumbs Up

That Visual IT software is actually pretty cool looking, its just a shame you have to pay for each and every different city's tube maps. If there was an unlimited license for say 30 - 40 I think I would probably buy it. As it stands, your looking at 12 per city so if your visiting 4 or 5 cities, your talking big bucks Sad

Metro, mentioned earlier by Andy, is very good, free, and can be found at:

http://www.nanika.net/Metro

The London map on mine covers tubes, trains and a few other bits and pieces, but not bus routes. It's regularly updated, so a newer map might be out by now.

Through 200m of water, mud and chalk? This I wish I had seen. I saw lasers and even a level and a chalk line but I didn't see a GPS down there. We do use GPS equipment above ground though. :D
