PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2005 2:25 pm    Post subject: Ford Mondeo with heated windscreen ? Reply with quote

Hi,

This is my first posting - hope it works! 8O

I am thinking of buying my first GPS - possibly the TT 500 or 700 depending on price. However I really could do without the inconvenience of an external antenna. Having read about french cars with heat resisting windows etc., can anyone offer advice about using in a Ford Mondeo (with heated front windscreen) ?

Thanks,

Even cars of the same make vary, my son has a Citreon Xara Piccaso 2003 and signal keeps disappearing, I have a Citreon Berlingo Multispace 2004 and have had NO problems at all from the day I bought my TTG.

Don't worry about it Mike, I have a Ford Focus with a heated screen. So long as you mount it in the bottom right hand side of the screen you will get a good signal

If you need one for the new 300/500/700 they haven't been released yet

If it's for the classic there's quite a few for sale on Ebay from shops for around £50

I've got the classic GO for a year now and it was generaly working OK. Though just few days ago when I was driving in central London narrow roads with high buildings, the tomtom lost signal and the ASN was useless.

I just wanted to know if the external antenna will improve the signal in those occasions or not??

If there is a reduced signal, the ext aerial will enhance it. If there is no signal whatsoever the ext aerial will not help.

You need to check how low the signal goes. I've found that the aerial will double approx. the signal gathered and that can make a lot of difference. It could be enough to get a sat lock.
