NAVTEQ have just upped the anti, and now have considerable coverage of Northern Ireland.

Checking in CoPilot Live 5, check out the following:-

Detailed Coverage now includes:-

- Londonderry
- Carrickfergus
- Newtonabbey
- Templepatrick
- Antrim
- Belfast
- Holywood
- Dundonald
- Newtownards
- Bangor
- Groomsport
- Donaghadee
- Ballywalter
- Portadown
- Lurgan
- Dunmurry
- Lisburn
- Hillsborough
- Moira
- Malahide
- Dublin
- Dun Laoghaire
- Swords
- Bray
- Waterford
- Cork

There are other town's/provinces that do have coverage, but only show a few roads, or just side roads off a main road, and I don't have extensive knowledge of Ireland to tell if that's accurate or not. Also enhanced are the major roads which at a glance I would say covers probably most of the major roads in Ireland because there are just so many showing on the map!

Hi Dave

Your post also mention towns in the south, where can i find more detail on this as this is the only thing i consider worthwhile for me to move from v4, everything else appears to be 90% graphical and very little functional change...........v4 does the job perfectly well apart from POI downloads which are still not resolved

If you let me know which towns you'd like to see maps for I can post some images, or ALK will be able to provide more in-depth information as to coverage.

Dave I would be interested in seeing some coverage for the South like best detail for around Newbridge in County Kildare (town) and if it exists a place called Nurney in County Kildare also.

Thanks

Paul.

Newbridge seems to be an area that doesn't show much population of roads still.

Take a look at:-

Thanks for that Dave it looks like about 1000% better than I expected. Even the fact that Henry St. is on the map is unbelievable for maps of Ireland. I am a surveyor by qualification and although mapping for Ireland is probably the best available in Europe from the OS its the cost that matters !! Copilot / Navteq seem to have taken the plunge and the only roads that I imagine are missing are the "L" rated roads. Looking at the images you posted some of them are there but not all. But its the best available for Navigation that I've seen.

Thanks.

That's good to hear Paul, from now on any other applications using updated NAVTEQ maps should hopefully have the same coverage then. Teleatlas is now falling behind it would seem in Ireland.

Can you supply an image of Belfast and Bangor (in Northern Ireland) and Cavan in Southern Ireland

Thanks

Thanks Dave. Does the system have the facility to zoom in anymore?

The reason I ask is that on the screenshots, you can obviously see other roads than the main roads. Since they are on the map. would a postal code (on a minor road) be picked up?

On the first two images you can certainly zoom in down to street level, on the third image that's nearly at full zoom.

Dave,

I presume that that the maps for the Republic of Ireland must be bought with the EU upgrade licence?

The Ireland maps are included in the UK license.

Hello,

Would it be possible to see the detail of the N Ireland map for Ballyclare in Co. Antrim.

Many thanks for the useful info I have gained while lurking here.

Paul
