Easy devices sent us a press release about a new product they have available in the UK: the Eten M500, a new PDA phone made in the far east.

The M500 is a Windows Mobile 2003 (second edition) based device running a Samsung 400Mhz Processor. It sports 64Mb Ram and 128 Mb Rom, with a QVGA screen.

It has a quad band GSM phone allowing it to be used on all world wide GSM networks. It also utilises GPRS Class10, which makes it an all round performer and competition for the new band of O2 XDA devices. What is different from the O2 devices is that the Eten M500 is sold SIM free so you can connect it to any GSM network you want to.

As the Eten is SIM free there is no contract subsidy for the phone, but Easy Devices are selling it with a price tag of £370.13 which makes it comprable to top end PDAs.

With companies like Co-Pilot and TomTom providing interactive products and services requiring a PDA to connect to the Internet to communicate devices like this are ideal.

The following is the full Easy Devices press release:

interesting, but no mention of intergrated bluetooth or WiFi
PDA2 still looks the best, 520MHz with PDA2K close second.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the iMate PDA2K has a 400MHz processor and it also has just Bluetooth and not WiFi and is priced around £550. This device is £370 inc. VAT.

DO NOT BUY FROM EasyDevices, they may be cheap, but if you have a problem you will find out why! My first Mio 168 developed a fault after less than a week, they tried to fob me off with a replacement, but I insisted on a new unit. I believe in fact I was given a re-furb. This developed a fault as well a couple of months later. It took me three e-mails and two phone calls to get them to agree to have the unit picked up. The courier company they used, then managed to smash the screen on my Mio.

Now Easydevices are telling me that I have to claim from the courier myself!! After being in contact with Trading Standards I know this is rubbish, but still they will not give me a new unit!! Over a month has passed now, and it looks like I will have to take them to the small claims court to get a refund. Oh and the company they use to repair the units will not give you the unit back unless you agree to pay the repair charge, which is over 200 Euros for a new screen and the actual fault to be fixed.
