Yup, I've got an S4 and it will be prohibited when (if) the proposed legislation becomes law. Having said all that it's not very good anyway!

I'm testing a Talex which is actually very good, the database appears to be very concise and the warnings are clear.

However I spotted an Ad in TopGear magazine for a product that includes a free subscription, if it is any good it could be a good deal at £299. See Drive Smart. I'll contact them and see if we can get one in for review.

With the outlawing of radar and laser it will ultimately be the quality of the database that makes a product worth purchasing, fancy looks and displays are worth nothing if the database is innacurate.

Aren't "Mobile Cameras" Laser or radar devices

Am I missing something here or does it say "Laser Traps"

Please can you comfirm exactly what is a Laser or radar camera

Hi Folks, I have just had a look at the Drive Smart Forum, from what I can see it is obviously a very new product with only a few posts on "Mobile Camera Locations" and the likes.

Personaly I would be very wary of buying somthing as new on the market as this appears to be until it had a good track record.

Whatever the camera type, all they are doing is reporting the location based on data in their database, they do not have 'active' detection so laser or whatever, for mobile units there may or may not be a van, car etc there but the location has been reported as a regular mobile haunt.

Does that make sense?

Thanks Darren, For the reply I think I will keep my Snooper S4 firmly on my dashboard for the time being. If it get's to the point of breaking the law then I will have to have another think about it, but I think it's a case of I would rather know where the mobile cameras are rather than take a chance on somebody sending info to a database.

I travel to some very remote parts of Wales with my job and so far I have uploaded about six mobile locations in just one week that were not on the S4 database already.

I use a Cyclops GPS safety camera detector - excellent Laughing

It only warns me about cameras on my side of the road and up to half mile ahead. When it's not doing that, it gives me an accurate road speed (usually about 3mph less than dashboard speedo).

This is my first post so have patience if I c*** it up!

I appreciate that this reply is 'off topic' re TTGO however having read your comments re the Snooper device I have emailed them re the legality of the S4 and they have referred me to the web page at www.snooperuk.com which gives a response from the Dept of Transport, additionally I have received an email which states that even if the device is to be made illegal by use of the incorporated laser they will issue a cover free of charge to registered users to allow the device to be continually of use.

Not much compensation when the reason I bought the unit in the first place was because of its dual detection facility. Rolling Eyes
