The procedure for making use of the Speed Camera database is complicated.
I have tried to list my method of transferring the 5000plus locations.
It works for me and my 'system', but it may not work for you!
The base of the PC is Garmin's MapSource 6.5
You need:-
POI Converter:- http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com
POI Database: - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php
Birdwatch and wayQue from: - http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=108
My method PC to iQue:- http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54787&perpage=40&pagenumber=1
Direct wayQue link:- http://software.blairkids.com/palm_pages/wayQue.html
Open POI Converter
File--Open--TomTom overlays [.ov2]
Import the relevant downloaded camera file.
Options—Garmin—Blank out waypoint prefix--Blank out ‘replace existing name’--Waypoint symbol/icon
File--Save as-- Choose name and destination and save as [.wpt] [note-smaller files.]
PC
Open the ‘just saved’ file in MapSource and save as [.mps] file
The ‘open’ .mps file can be edited by selecting and removing unwanted camera regions and re-saved as a ‘new’ file.
You then have a MapSource .mps file of all Cameras and another of your personal selection.
Should you wish to travel out of your ‘normal’ area you can add the other cameras later!
Do not give them icons other than waypoint.
I have one Mapsource file with all 5000plus cameras but I would not try to put all into PalmDesktop or the iQue in one attempt!!!!!!!!!!

PalmDesktop
Import waypoints from the [.mps] file above [you should have already setup the Garmin conduit with green flag on top bar]
The imported camera waypoints will always end up in ‘unfiled’
Categorize them as ‘cameras’ in Address book. Do not change Symbol.
HotSync to iQue.

Now before doing anything else:-
Open wayQue and hide the waypoints from the iQue!
I don’t bother changing the icons as I never see the waypoints on Qmap!!!
All wayQue does is changes the [G] of Garmin to [X] Xarmin and then the iQue will not see them as waypoints.
In the address book they are entered but without locations! You can use wayQue to change them at any time. [All winter, my European Waypoints are hidden from view.
The iQue should not be any slower now after adding 5000 waypoints!?!?

Birdwatch
Use Birdwatch now for audible warnings.
Waypoint preferences-Reload from addrbook.
Addrbook Category-- Enter your camera category[ies] I have Mobcam and StatCam
Turn on all the options you want!
Save
The Birdwatch program I have on Hard Button 3.
I use my iQue as normal and will be alerted [audibly] to cameras at 500m.
I press button 3 and I have a camera number, type and most important - relevant speed limit.
I hope this will be of use to 'you'. |
