The Navigon MN|5 Software will soon be available on all hardware platforms which include Pocket PC, PNA (Personnel Navigation Assistant) and mobile phone and universally usable: whether on the bicycle, foot or in the car. The MN|5 is the extended follow-up version of the success software mobile navigator (MN|4) distinguished several times by renowned magazines. Proven functions like the dynamic re-routing, TMC, or Voice COMMAND and with innovative features such as CleverMap, speed info and Signpost information are continued into MN|5. The software is available with maps for 27 European countries as well as North America and six Gulf States in altogether 16 languages and both a software only version and bundled with hardware thanks to the co-operation of our partners such as HP and Fujitsu Siemens as a complete package available from retailers and on-line from www.navigon.com.

No news yet. It should be said that the new Navigon PNA and Mitac bundles with Navigon software now use TeleAtlas data and not NAVTEQ.

I would sincerely hope that the M6 toll road will be there, judging by maps we've seen from TeleAtlas and NAVTEQ, but it depends on which build release of maps Navigon will be using.

I would really like to see detailed maps of Czech republic and Slovakia in those 27 refered states of Europe :-) I would really like to use same navigation software in these two states as anywhere else in Europe. If Navigon has theese, it becomes my new GPS "black horse" solution, throwing shadow on Tomtom. :P Does anybody know, what and how detailed is in maps, that Navigon is going to release with MN5 ?

Prices for first buyers given on the homepage admits. The Upgrade will shortly be orderable over the Web. It is not made by a pdf down load (as last year). CDs must still be returned.

I've spoken yesterday with a lady at CeBIT and she told me that MN|5 won't have Map export anymore!! Instead, it'll have predefined country maps plus the so called "main roads of Europe".
If that's true, I'm not happy with it.

With the MobileNavigator|5, NAVIGON provides reliable navigation for everyone.
We’ve all had the experience: you’ve lost your way and the route you have chosen seems to bring you further and further from your intended destination. The time pressure is causing droplets of sweat to form on your forehead: the new restaurant will only hold your reservation for another 15 minutes. Shortly before closing time, you still haven’t managed to find the new shoe store and the bargains you hoped to find aren’t going to materialise. You begin to struggle with the patented folding street map on the passenger seat. Up until now, you never found a way to make peace with the technology. A navigation system was too complex for you to operate – even the programming of the video recorder was something you left to your nephew.

Now NAVIGON has a solution for you.: with the MobileNavigator|5, the fast, secure locating of destinations and exceptional ease-of-use are guaranteed. Users can select between Easy and Professional modes. The “Easy mode” permits a simplified operation which makes software use possible even for the technically inexperienced. Special software configurations or PC experience are no longer necessary. By contrast, the “Professional mode” offers the technically experienced the full range of functions available with this improved software. Florian Singer, Navigon’s Executive Director for Marketing & PR, explains: “We wanted to offer our customers a solution to suit their individual needs. Even on international journeys, it’s possible to retain the overview with the MN|5. The MN|5 software comes equipped with map material for all registered European countries, plus the USA and Canada and six Gulf States (GCC). The map for the respective country in which the system was purchased can be used immediately. Users can comfortably activate desired additional maps individually or in a bundle in the Internet at www.navigon.com on payment of a fee, or purchase them in shops pre-installed on memory cards. The MN|5 software is available with maps for 27 European countries plus North America and GCC in a total of 16 languages.

The new NAVIGON software is additionally supplemented by further useful features, for example the “Signpost” information. Signpost additionally simplifies the orientation through showing the next stages of the route using real traffic signs in difficult situations e.g motorway junctions. The information appears in the form of blue motorway signs with a description of the next route destination. Additional exit options, which are usually displayed on the street signs, are not displayed.

With the MN|5, NAVIGON makes a further contribution to driving security and comfort: speed limits, if they are recorded in the map material, are compared with the actual driving speed. If the driver exceeds the speed limit, he/she is made aware of this visually and, as an option, acoustically.

Functions like speech operation (Voice Command) and traffic congestion avoidance free of charge, which NAVIGON was the first manufacturer to introduce to the market, remain available to increase driving security. Furthermore, NAVIGON is the first supplier to also enable free traffic jam avoidance for the mobile telephone.

The MN|4 software was already known for its versatile and flexible use in the car, on foot or on a bicycle. With the MN|5 the navigation software can now be used on all mobile appliances such as PDA, PNA or mobile telephone.

The MobileNavigator|5 is offered for sale as a modular system: the options range from the software alone at a price of 129 Euros through to the extensive complete package with German map material including NAVIGON TriCeiver, TMC and Bluetooth for 399 Euros.

The MobileNavigator|5 is available to purchase in stores or can be ordered at www.navigon.com from the beginning of May 2005.

Is it me or is this a step backward?

One of the key things (for me anyway) that would encourage me to select Navigon over TomTom/CoPilot is the fact that it's got Europe buttoned down, without the need for shelling out more. I mean, €129 (that's about £90) which is TomTom territory. You can buy v4 for €179.

Think I'll be reconsidering...unless country should've meant continent (but I doubt it)
