I'm only guessing, but perhaps it's something to do with the syntax of the addresses in your Pocket Contacts application?

The TomTom manual says "People enter addresses in different ways... When TomTom Navigator tries to establish the location on the map for the selected contact it will try to do so in a smart way..." Which is why it normally asks for confirmation before going off to calculate a route.

On my PocketPC there is a drop down arrow to the right of each address box. When I tap that it brings up a box which prompts for Address line 1, City, County, Post Code etc. TomTom will then hapilly pick up the relevant bits of each address if I tap and hold on the contact name and then choose Navigate To... from the resulting pop-up window.

You do have to be careful, some of the problems using addresses are down to the way TomTom have categorised towns and cities. For instance, Fleet is in Hampshire (hants), but is listed as harts, which I believe is something to do with political boundaries.

Lots of locations are stored with their wrong area name as we know it, so unfortunately it means creating a list of places, try and enter them into TomTom Navigator and see what the town/city name is, and then use that in your address book. It's not good at all, in-fact a total farce, but it's the only way to achieve this at present.

Unfortunately this is tied to the geodata/maps, so fixing this cannot be done in a downloadable program update.

Dave,

I have found that when there are multiple matches for a city then you must include the full description used by TTN. For instance I have to use Farnham (Waverley) for my location else TTN will pick Farnham (East Dorset) which is the first Farnham in its list. The best way is to use Find to get the TTN City description and use that in your contacts list.

I sent an email to TomTom saying that I (we) would prefer to use the County name as opposed to the local area authority name and received the following reply:-

"Dear Richard,

Thanks for your feedback, we will use this as input for further releases.

Regards,

TomTom Customer Services"

I am going to email them again because if TTN had used the County name, eg Farnham (Surrey) then it could have found the correct entry without me making any alteration to my contacts list, as Surrey was already in the address. Worth a try I suppose

Richard
