There are copyright issues with duplicating program discs.

Software is valuable - why are your valuable program discs "mug coasters"? The only way to get new discs is to contact the manufacturer for help; if you can produce proof of purchase, they may be able to help.

The same is true with product keys - keep them safe, as they're your entitlement to use your software, as well as required if you need to reinstall or want to upgrade your software.

I've got literally thousands of pounds worth of software across my PCs and Pocket PCs. I keep careful note of all my product codes (including product codes of older versions used to qualify upgrades - for things like Microsoft Office, where this matters), not least because if discs are damaged or stolen, the product codes should prove that I had purchased the software.

I agree totally with what you said. As a developer myself I fully appreciate intellictual copyright etc etc. I did get in touch with the 'manufacturer' here in the UK, but have you ever tried contacting Medion UK. Evil or Very Mad Since my pda was bought in Germany they didnt want to know period. I was only trying to 'replace' what I bought and had in the first place even if I had to pay again. But I dont want to get into disputes about this and as I said I fully understand that there might be some unscrupulous people about. Anyway thanks for pointing this out.

regards

Thanks for the reasoned reply.

We seem to be getting quite a few posts where people have lost software discs, product codes or only seem to have the software of what is supplied only as software and hardware bundles. There's also been a thread recently where, after quite a bit of effort from various people in helping someone, the problem turned out to be that the original poster was using "cracked" software.

Pocket GPS World has a strict policy of not supporting or condoning anything which breaches copyright or software licence agreements. There's several reasons for this - all fairly obvious. Of course, the moderators and Pocket GPS World team cannot make judgments in your case or in any specific case, but there are certain requests that concern us as either not sounding right somehow, or may even be thinly veiled requests for pirate software.

I will agree that the attitude of some companies to their paying customers - even when proof of purchase and/or licence keys can be provided and there's a good reason why the original media have been destroyed or are unavailable - is poor, and that doesn't help anyone. I can't comment on Medion in particular - though maybe someone else reading can put you in touch with someone at Medion that can help.
