Alternative Route - Whole Route?

I had occasion to use my kit for a journey from my home to York. ( I use the kit even for routes I know so that when I use it on unknown routes I am used to the system) I keyed in my destination and it worked out a route. I noticed that the route recommended using the M62/M1 and the M1 Extension to the A1. I have made this journey to York many times and know that the start of this route is some 7 to 8 miles longer than my normal route. I therefore keyed in the Alternative Route Function and "voila" it recommended the start of the route I normally use. Some ten miles into the journey I noted that I was being directed onto side roads and at that point and had to revert back to my original route.

It may now be obvious, but if you choose an alternative route it will calculate one for the whole of the route not just the segment you think is wrong.

If there is an area you would normally not use then set an 'Avoid Area'. I have done this to prevent routing in a way that I would not agree with and would ignore as you have.
