Just ditched my ICN 630 because of the atrocious Teleatlas maps for Ireland and got myself a Pocket PC and Copilot 5.
It's a very powerful program that initially daunts but I am slowly seeing its flexibility and strength.
The Navtech maps are absolutely brilliant with Ireland comprehensively mapped for the first time.
It's not just major cities - nearly every town is logged with at least an icon.
With yearly updates NavTech will have covered Ireland in another year or two.
One problem Dave, the trip planner on the PPC works fine with auto complete of addresses but on the PC Destop Copilot it just won't work with any info except if you click the help button when it brings up some haphazard addresses.
I have registered my software.
Any ideas? |

Can you give me some examples because I'm not seeing a problem here.
You are entering UK first before trying to enter the street aren't you ? |

Dave,
I have tried typing in everything but I don't get any options.
If I hit the help button different addresses do come up.
For instance if I put in Clarecastle and hit help button then I get options including Clarecastle, EI, Clare.
I decipher that as Town:Clarecastle, Country EI (Ireland), County: Clare.
It seems a very haphazard way to look something up.
Could you try an Irish address as an experiment and tell me how you entered it?
Rathfarnham Road, Terenure, Dublin 6, Ireland |

I always thought Rathfarnham was Dublin 6 but it comes up as "Dublin 6w" at the castle end or Dublin 12 at the Terenure end.
Maybe try a search for Dublin 6w... |

Could someone tell me how they entered the address - step by step.
If I enter Dublin 6 or enything else I get no options and the street or name fields are dimmed.
If I hit hit return I do get options but not for Dublin. |

I think it is the TAB you are missing. It's not very intuitive... you need experience with other computer software to figure it out I think. _________________ Kam |

Kev, rather than entering country as UK enter EI and then type clarecastle and you'll see it listed as Clarecastle, Clare County

Enter EI for Country, then Dublin 6 for town, then Rathfarnham Road for Street and it will appear. |

Would you be able to post a pic showing the coverage for Whitehead? Home town for both myself and brother who are deciding what to go for and as a small town should be a good indicator for general quality of maps too.
All help MUCH appreciated! |

Hello there, just a few quick questions for the more experienced among you.
I have an Ipaq 3950, with a Navman 3400 jacket, running ST Professional v1.0.
I was thinking of upgrading to V 3.0, but based on comments on here, it seems that Navman maps are not the best for primarily Irish use?
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a solution to work with my existing PDA, or, would I get better performance if I went for a dedicated navigation unit?
I assume the maps used by Garmin are best for Ireland?
Thanks in advance....... :D |

SmartST mapping of Ireland are er, patchy, to say the least. Major cities and interjoining roads only. Somewhere there's a thread detailing the cities and town maps; a search of the forums should reveal the thread. _________________ Tim |

The Co-Pilot software will work with your Navman sleeve and iPAQ, albeit without the tracking and traffic extras. _________________ Tim |

Sorry for being dumb, but I assume the tracking is where I can be tracked by GPS ? Whats the traffic extras?
One last question - what sort of a package would I need to be fully compatible with all functions? |

Make sure you are aware of Navteq vs Teleatlas differences here. I think Navteq have the better maps of Ireland at the moment but TeleAtlas are said to be working on updates too so this may change.
In my CoPilot 5 Smartphone (Navteq maps), Whitehead south down the A2 to Belfast seems to be fully mapped, but Larne is not mapped (major roads and ferry terminal only).
It's interesting to see that Garmin's European City Select v7 maps (also Navteq) are even more up-to-date and Larne now appears to be fully mapped. Have a look at the online map viewer to see the maps for yourself.
