Hi
I have only been a member for a few weeks, but this forum has now nearly stopped, on average i find that if there are more than 35 users on line then it can take over a minute to load a page, i am using broadband and have not seen this on other forums.
Please do not take this the wrong way, just trying to point out that there is a problem.
This is the best web forum that i have visited for information on GPS, and would like to see it just work ok. _________________ Mypads

We are acutely aware of the performance issues. What you see as 35 users is just one of many forums, in reality the number of concurrent users is much higher.
We have been hit with record growth rates in users and submissions, and the server hardware is barely coping.
Thank you for your patience while we are sorting this out. _________________ Lutz

Perhaps some thought could be given to whether the advertising at the top and sides of the forum posts could be made constant AND just downloaded the once, thence to be retrieved from whatever cache your browser uses.
Presumably most of the bandwidth used by the server to reproduce the thread on the user's screen is eaten up by this "non-post" data?
"Wouldn't it be nice..."

The ads aren't the cuplrit here, we are experiencing performance issues with our SQL Database as well as heavy loads on other virtual servers with which we share space draining resources.
The ads are necessary to cover our hosting costs, bandwidth usage alone per month is massive but we are aware of the performance problems and suffer them as much as everyone else. Rest assured we are working towards a resolution. _________________ Darren Griffin |

We have both upgraded the server and done some "tweeks" to the configuration. This should make it run much better.
We had our busiest day ever today with over 600 concurrent users on the site before we hit meltdown today. The upgrade was performed after that. _________________ Mike Barrett |

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
Have you considered making a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!
