Hello,

I am having trouble with the combination of Polstar GPS, SPV C500 and Mapopolis, but I suspect the software is irrelevant here. Confused

I enabled COM7 and performed all the remaining magic (power cycling etc.) so that COM7 remains enabled. Then I paired C500 with the GPS.

Mapopolis finds (?) the GPS on COM7 and reports 'Running/No fix'. The GPS is working as I tried it earlier with my P900 and it gives the fix and all else fine. And yes, I did un-pair it from the P900 ...

What am I doing wrong, please? Embarassed

Thanks in advance,

W.

There is magic involved in this process but certainly not power-cycling.

Follow the instructions in the CoPilot Smartphone forum, and the set the receiver settings in Mapopolis to manual COM7: at 38400.

Btw - unpairing from the P900 was not neecessary - th BT GPS receivers do not store partner information - you can pair them with as many clients as you like. (This is a security risk, especially for data loggers)

Do you mean this sequence?

The best way to pair a device successfully is to

1) delete all pairings you have
2) go into configuration and disable outbound COM7 and OK
3) go back and re-enable COM7
4) power cycle phone
5) Go in and re-enable COM7 again (it's unchecked)
6) This will throw you into Bluetooth pairing
7) Create a new bond and pair key
8 ) Before doing anything else, power cycle phone
9) Go back in and double check that COM7 is now enabled under Configuration
10) Now use any GPS application and it should work.

I have done that.

That's interesting. Actually, I did it just in case, as well as walking around my chair in the clock-wise direction three times, throwing a pinch of salt over my left shoulder (no, it did not hit the receiver, which would explain something) and so far I refrained from doing the obvious with a black chicken.

Still 'Running/No fix'. Do I have a junkie phone?

Sorry if not being serious offends anyone here, but this is just a stage of my growing frustration.

Still hopeful,
W.

Yes, there is magic! Half an hour later the SPV went ping with Home Screen on telling me I have stopped in Unknown Street. Went into Mapopolis and bingo, there was a fix (!). It knows where it is.

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions.

All the best from your deliriously happy newbie.

Hi
Please be kind 1st posting.
I am using same equipment as Wlodek, buy have encountered another problem, which i seem to have got no where with for most of the evening.

After following the length of this thread ive now got to the bit where you got to Mapopolis and go into GPS, which it says is not running so i look at options - gps options - change them to com7 and 38400. Menu start,
then phone bleeps says "GPS Port (com7:) is not available. If this problem continues, you may need to soft-reset your device.Reset now?"

Even if i click yes does nothing.

Also if phone is charging cannot get connection to my bt device plugged into compt.
This develops a connection light stays blue but when trying to use pc tester 1.4 zip then dies

Help

The instructions listed here are not good enough. You MUST follow the instructions here

http://pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=14558

After you deleted all bonded devices, and enabled COM7 (step 3.1) did it directly take you to the bonding screen? If not then you haven't followed the process and must start over.

I have no idea why they make it that complicated but if you don't follow the instructions to the letter it won't work.

Hi
Many thanks for reply, have followed instructions exactly as indicated.
it finds and bonds fine, as long as password not used.

But still get same error message, about comm7.

Have tried with pocket streets, here it again finds gps, but will not connect just says make sure it is turned on

So either gps is broke but can get connection with gps, or think will have to do hard reset of c500
Any ideas

That can't be right. You MUST bond with a pin ode.

Using a password it will not bond, however if i just press done it bonds.

At work was able to use and communicate via blue tooth with the gprs, and it was definetly doing recieving something, but is there some free software that tells me that it is connected to x no. of satellites etc.

Think i will try hard reset on phone later, as no matter what i do it says com7 not available

You can use Mapopolis Smartphone to test the GPS connection.

Im a bit confused because this is what i want to do.
Have now hard reset phone and followed insructions again.
But still says gps port com7 is not available.

Still will only connect without password, have just tried on Nokia 6600 and it bonds fine when using password but not on C500.

Any more suggestions

Sounds likeyour Polstar receiver does it differently than all the other BT GPS out there... Can you test the Polstar with a Pocket PC?

Smile you should see my hair, or not as the case may be, nothing left to pull.

But this is not due to Polstar which is working (Thanks Group!!) happily on the C55 with Mapopolis.

I followed the instructions further up this thread and it just works now.

One thing I am unhappy with is a very slow cold start, which instead of the advertised less than a minute goes on (flashing the red LED) for good three minutes. And this is on a bare hill on our countryside campus.

It loses the fix in not so dense pine wood where I took it for a Sunday Walk (Aaahhh...). I am sure my Vista wasn't doing this on the same walk, but I need to check on that. If this is the case I will get a BT connector for Vista, flog the Polstar and have a beer with my better half for the rest of the proceeds. Having said that it seems to keep the fix alright while driving through towns and cities (admittedly only small cities).

On a more productive I may arrange a proper little contest between Polstar, Garmin GPS12 I use for teaching, and my Garmin Vista when I find a minute or fifteen. Any suggestions on tests apart from timing cold start in good conditions and in not so good ones?

If you are in NW UK (S. Cumbria, N. Lancs) Guy999 we could get together and see if you have got a naff Polstar.

Best wishes,

W.

Still no joy have tried hard reseting and everything that you could imagine, must be phone or software on it. Phone is about month old.

Wlodek, thanks for invite but im by Birmingham.
Have contacted the seller recently from ebay, as batteries either will not charge or charger not charging batteries. She has emailed me saying that will either offer replacement gps/batteries or a refund.
May take the final option and cut my loses
