I'm planning to develop some GPS software (initially for my own use)to run on my Ipaq 3970/pocketPc.

I haven't added a GPS yet and am having a hard time determining which packages (Navman, Pharos, etc...) work better from a developer's perspective. I basically just need to grab current lat/long from within a Macromedia Flash app. running on the pda. Quality of maps, etc.. are a secondary consideration to ease of automated location entry.

I also have a Microsoft Access spreadsheet that I need to enter lots of (decimal) lat/long information into. If this could be automated with any of the packages, that would be a plus [go to the location, go to the longitude column, press a button to move current long into the field, etc..].

Any insight would be appreciated,

Gary

Gary, they all work in the same way from a development point of view. I'd suggest using NMEA and not SiRF (most receivers come configured to use NMEA out of the box, and there's more development information for NMEA than SiRF at present from what I've seen.

Beware about using Access. Pocket PC's do not natively support Access, this is something Microsoft never completed. There are several other database programs around that do write out in Access format or can read Access database files, but it's not strictly Access.

From a hardware perspective, less cables the better as you'll probably be doing a lot of testing outside walking around with your app, so a CF GPS card, or a sleeve like the Emtac sleeve, or even the Emtac Bluetooth GPS as you have a 3970 would probably work better.
