Hi All,
I've been looking to buy a decent navigation software for my IPAQ 4150 and I came across TomTom 2004 and CoPilot 5.
Witch one is the Best ? I've hear many good things about TomTom but I think this new one, CoPilot 5, as step over TomTom. Can anyone help me decide wich one to buy.

Thanks Smile

Well first of all I would suggest you read the TomTom Navigator 3 review and CoPilot Live 5 Review (if you haven't done so already).

It all depends on what you want out of the software. Every piece of software is better for someone else because of the features they want. You'd be better off reading the reviews, then posting a feature request and that should hopefully narrow down your selection.

The only thing I would say is that TomTom still holds the better GUI interface, but CoPilot I still believe (and after reviewing both products) is the best for being able to navigate to every location you require. TomTom still has problems doing this and you end up more with TomTom browsing the map, trying to pin-point the location you want to navigate to and then setting it as your destination rather than entering an address.

Both products support importing of custom POI's including speed camera warnings that are available on the site, but TomTom's process is a lot easier.

Do you really mean TomTom Navigator 2004, which is a new United States product? It would really help if you set your location, so that we knew which country you were asking about.

In the UK and Europe, TomTom Navigator 3 remains the current version.

OK - it's TomTom Navigator 3 in Europe that we're talking about then.

The Navigator 3 maps are now around a year out of date. For some people in the UK that causes a problem - there's some new major roads that aren't in the maps. I don't know what the situation is like in the Iberian area.

Despite the aging maps, TomTom Navigator 3 remains a very popular choice - in my opinion, deservedly so. There will probably be an upgrade available within six months, and if previous history is anything to go by, it won't be too expensive. At the moment, CoPilot has the newer maps of the two.

I believe CoPilot uses Navteq geodata across the whole of Europe, if not in other areas. TomTom uses TeleAtlas geodata. I don't know which is superior in the Iberian area - maybe someone else can comment.

I just got TomTom 2004 (in USA). It is diabolical. I will no longer buy anything from TomTom again.

from what i have read tomtom 2004 is a stripped down version of 2.24 with reduced features. the main new feature is the added major roads map. i bought the upgrade but didn't even open it. i'm going to sell it with my old tomtom kit. i'm still deciding what software product to replace it with. even the european maps for the usa seem to be a better product that tomtom 2004. seems like a dumb move to offer a more complete product for usa navigation outside the us and then rip it to shreds for customers in the usa who will actually navigate in the us.

Sorry if i am asking a silly question Confused

are these the same versions as CoPilot and Tom Tom for Smart Phones

I am looking for a solution for my SPV C500 smartphone using s/w and bluetooth GPS.

Copilot is £210
Tom Tom is £168

Not sure which to go for apart from price! Question

No - the products being talked about in this thread are for the Pocket PC, not the SmartPhone. There are some differences between the two.
