My 3400 works anywhere inside the car at any angle (even upside down) I am however running a powerful re-radiating aerial

I was 3 miles from home yesterday eve (using GPS) but stopped in at the petrol station to get some crisps and juice, but rather than switch off the unit in case of theft, I just popped it into my glove compartment and locked the car.

I got back in the car and, because I had not far to go, I never bothered taking it out of the glove box (which is totally sealed from any signal).    Astonishingly, I continued to hear directions getting given to me by the 3400 - ALL THE WAY HOME...PERFECT VOICE DIRECTIONS FOR 3 MILES!!!

Can anyone shed light on this?   Is this normal?   How can it retain a signal like this with no access to the sky?

Confused (but delighted)!

If your dash is made of plastic then it won't shield the radio signal much. My gps works in my house under areas that have a flat roof which is obviously usefull to check that your house isn't moving!!!
