I lost my charge cable the other day while on a course and I'm looking for any alternative means of charging my clip-on. I've emailed Fortuna and they said they'll try find me a local supplier (bought from Germany on eBay) - but I haven't seen anything from them yet after 2 requests...

Has anyone used a mobile phone charger? If so which?

Is the charge cable the same size as any other GPS units?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jerry,

For in-car charging, I use a genuine Nokia phone cigar socket charger for my Clip-Ons. It does the job well.

You would probably be able to use a Nokia phone mains charger too, however the ones that I've tried have had the wrong sized connecter plug. If you do use a Nokia mains charger you will need to ensure that it has the correct volt and amp output for the Clip-On.

Regards,

I have a mains Nokia phone charger and, you're right, it doesn't fit.

It's a bit wierd that the car charger version WOULD fit....

Anything else?

Hi Guys
I recently bought an IPAQ 2210 and the mains charger comes with the same plug on it that fits the Clip-On as well.
The Nokia charger for my old 8210 has the correct plug and voltage as well and so a Nokia car charger cable will fit as well.
I am also about to make up a dedicated power lead for my car to power my IPAQ and Clip-On and bought the following parts from www.CPC.co.uk

part no: pw00958 (mobile telephone dc-dc converter - £3.51)
part no: cn05722 (DC power plug with strain releif - 5 off in a pack £2.21)

The dc-dc converter is the correct voltage and has a large current capacity to handle both items and so I will cut the current connector off and create a Y cable with two power plugs for the accessories.
[prices are exc. VAT and delivery]

Hope this helps
Adrian

Fantastic

Damn, I hadn't thought about that one! I have an Ipaq 4150 and it works! I'd forgotten about it since it was plugged into the back of my cradle.

And to think I bought a car adapter for my Ipaq when I could have used the Fortuna all along...

Anyway thanks very much for this info - it's exactly what I wanted. I tried it already and it charged my clip-on just fine.

I have two genuine Nokia ACP-12X mains chargers and one older genuine Nokia mains Charger and they all fit the Clip-on and charge it fine.

I have to mention that the connector is a bit of tight fit and it does require a bit of pressure the first few times.
