I have an Ipaq 3870 with tomtom installed. At the moment I have a 512mb sd card but would like to use a larger card for more maps and programs. Does anybody know if a 1gb or maybe 2.2 gb sd card would work with this pda please?

yes, that should work. (Where do you get a 2.2 GB card, and at what price?)

I'm still running a 3870 with a 1GB SD card now. Make sure it's one of the faster ones ... 48x or higher. Runs fine.

Sandisk do a 2GB SD card for around £160 - £170 :

Though whether you'd want to risk spending that much on a Sandisk card given the reported problems they have had, I'm unsure.

In compact flash I've seen cards as large as 8GB.

does our pocketpc's read as fast as the rated read speed of the cards? i bought an 80x cf card and wondering whether it's worth it. too bad i failed to do a comparison. the old card is gone.

I am a bit anxious to get a 1gb Sandisk sd card at the moment, although my 512mb Sandisk is working ok. Can you please tell me the make of your 1gb card as I can see you have a tried and tested one and I may get one.

Thanks

I've just had a dud 1GB SD card (Integral "High Speed") replaced with a 1GB Lexar 32x SD card. So far it's working fine.

It seems that Lexar have now started manufacturing their own SD cards, or are having SD cards specificially made for them (at one point they were rebadging other manufacturers including Toshiba and Sandisk). The pack that my card came in is fairly clearly marked Made in U.S.A.

I haven't had time for a full test, but it seems that the consensus on the forums is that these recent Lexar SD cards are fine. Sandisk SD cards still seem to have performance issues in some devices.

Meanwhile, many brands rebadge other manufacturers - so what you get when buying by brand and size can change over time. There's at least two types of SD cards available under various brands at the moment that seem troublesome in Pocket PCs.
