hello to the forum from a newbe,

first, i am sorry for my bad english, bad i`m from bavaria!

can anybody give me an information about the quality of the navman-map of ireland? you know, how difficult a journey in ireland can be, but if the maps work well, it would be easier to enjoy the country and to be concentrated to the left-driving Embarassed

so, if you know an answer, i would be very happy.

thank you

Willkommen Thumbs Up

I'm sorry to say that the maps of Ireland are not good. Crying or Very sad

Dublin and Belfast are pretty much 100% covered and the map providers have released updates to their Ireland maps in the last 6 months but the coverage is still very poor. You will probably need a paper map. Confused

@skippy:
thank you for your welcome und your answer.
so i have to use the good old paper maps. thank you for saving money!

by the way, the icn 510 is very expensive in germany (about 649 euro ~ 850 usd)
is the new navigon blue edition (similar to mitac mio 136) also a good solution for navigation only? (only 479 eur) it seems to be nearly the same hardware like navman - but the software is the important thing. there are no informations around and i think the navman however is a very good system, easy to use and good navigation.

OK, I'm just back from a weekend in Ireland and it looks like the Navteq maps that CoPilot uses have been updated to improve the coverage in Ireland quite a lot.

Outside of Dublin the major roads have been mapped which is a vast improvement. It's usable for long distance routing via main roads, but there is very limited coverage of the towns. Some residential roads in town are marked, but often incomplete and without names/turn restrictions or POIs.

Navman Smart STv3 Ireland map covers at least 20 towns / cities down to street level with all the M and N roads in-between.

The towns / cities at full street level are:

Athlone, Ballincolling, Bray, Carlow, Cork, Drogheda, Dublin, Dundalk, Dun Laoghaire, Galway, Kildare, Kilkenney, Limerick, Navan, Sallybrook, Sligo, Swords, Tralee, Waterford, Wexford

There may be more but I have not checked.
