I have an iPaq 3660 running TTN2 together with above GPS mouse. The system has been running well for a considerable time, until Friday when a 300 mile journey required the use of paper maps (yuk) as the GPS was not talking to the Ipaq. I have established it is likley to be a port error on Com 1 as that is the error I get when opening TT GPS. Can anyone tell me how to clear the port and find out what is trying to use it.

Here's hoping

Start out with a soft reset.

Make sure any keyboard drivers are disabled.

Make sure the GPS is getting power (if there's any lights, are they showing?)

Break and remake all the connectors.

If it's none of these, it's possible that your connectors have worn.

Hi David, thanks for the prompt response.

A soft reset did not work, the GPS power light is steady and has been for a number of hours, the PDA syncs with the PC ok.

How can I check for any errant keyboard drivers on the PDA?

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is to find another user of this combination to test mine on.

If it is no go, will this model ipaq take a wireless GPS option to use with TTN2 or TTN3 if I upgrade?

No luck so far as wireless goes - a 3660 is far too old to have Bluetooth built in (built in Bluetooth didn't become available until the 3800 series), and trying to add Bluetooth hardware is almost certainly more hassle than it's worth.

Keyboard drivers - you'd have had to install them yourself. If you don't have any plug in keyboards, this is unlikely to be the problem.

However - start with basics. The next thing to try is to see whether TomTom GPS has lost its configuration. The correct setting for an Evermore based Haicom GPS (as yours is, and any where the model designator ends with an E), is NMEA 0183v2 4800 - and, in your case, COM1:.

If you set that up in TomTom GPS (you need to untick the box at the top of the second tab before you can change the settings, then tick it again afterwards), then you get a port error when you tick the box, something has claimed the serial port, and you need to track that down.

If you're otherwise stuck, you could look is in your ActiveSync settings on the Pocket PC to see if somehow ActiveSync has been configured to claim the serial rather than USB port.
