not new XJ, but previous series (4 years old) Sovereign. The heated screen is the type with lots of fine vertical lines in it.

Do you get any?
Do you need an external antenna?

Thanks

P.S. I'm this close to getting an iCN 510 - have already started dropping heavy hints to wife re xmas prezzy!

The only way to find out for sure is going to be to try it! We have two Renaults and they both have athermic windscreens and the reception in both of them is almost non-existent if the receiver is in the front windscreen. I use an external aerial in mine. However, a friend has a Navman PiN and has used it in a new Freelander which has a heated windscreen and he has no problems getting a signal.

Athermic (UV Coated) windscreens will degrade the signal by around 50-60%. Windscreens with heater coils (when powered) will degrade signal by about 15-20%. Most of the time a heater coil windscreen will not degrade the signal enough to cause significant problems, but if you are only receiving a low satellite lock then it can cause you problems.
