TomTom GO screen protectorEver since the TomTom Go was released there have been calls from the Users for screen protection and anti-glare coatings. Well Covertec have heard your requests and have produced an Anti-Reflection screen protector specially tailored for the TomTom GO. Priced at £10.38 it is available directly from the Covertec website.

We have reviewed some Covertec products in the past, Covertec are well known for producing high quality. They are moving into a different market with screen protectors so how do these measure up?

Any chance of a photo without the screen to see a comparison?

Thanks.

I dont actually have a before comparison shot, my comments were from experience when trying to get screen shots for the original GO review.

The screen is simply burnt out by the flash, with nothing visible.

Mike, given that the screen size for the Go is about that of the Navman 510, would this protector work for the 510 as well?

The protector for the Ipaq 1910 seems to be the best fit, apart from the made for purpose one here.

That's because you shouldn't be using flash! Put some spotlights on, enough to give you a decent light meter reading, or turn the lights off at night and let the screen glow nicely and set to Manual on the camera, or disable the flash.

But of course then you only get a shot of the screen, not the body of the device as well.

This picture was deliberatly taken to show the effectrs of the anti-reflection coating.

Mike, Dave - stop fighting! Now Mike, could you please tell me if I can use these protectors for the Navman 510? I think the screen size is almost identical.

The protector that sgould mentioned for the Ipaq 1910 - is there a specific brand I should look out for or are they all going to be as effective in reducing glare?

Thanks guys!

Simon,

I have not seen nor do I have a 510, so I cannot offer an opinion.

The size of the protector is 55mm x 72mm you can of course trim it down somewhat.

Ha, you wanna see fighting ? Laughing Just debating on how we can bring you better photos of products Wink

You could use the screen protectors on the 510, however bear in mind they are the wrong dimension! You'd be better off going with a PDA protector for the 510.

I have not seen the reviews of this protector, nor do I know how good/bad the anti reflection is but 10 quid seems an awful lot of money for a small piece of plastic, though some will say it costs a lot more to replace the screen, I simply removed the protective plastic that came on the Go originally, cut it to shape and refitted it job done!
Now all I need is the TT go case.... still waiting Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

There seems to be a load of different prices/brands of screen protectors out there that would suit the Navman/TTGo/Ipaq1910 screen size. Can anyone recommend a specific one that will offer the best anti-glare?

The Covertec demo pictures do seem to show it in the best light (pardon the pun) but will any cheaper brand for the Ipaq be just as good?

I bought the Covertec protectors from Widget. They arrived after 3 days and I only had two attempts to get the protector on satisfactory. It certainly appears to keep the screen cleaner, but due to our lovely UK weather I haven't been able to test the anti-reflective properties yet.

I use "Acetate Film" bought at any Arts & Craft shops for a couple of quid.

The type you require is Economy Clear Acetate 20 in. x15 in. sheet .003" thick. Cut it to size, you get about 15 to 20 pieces. They do the job perfectly.
