In the first 3 days of this week I have encountered 5 new gatso installations on routes which are well known to me. These are cameras that have sprung up virtually overnight. Travelling from the south west on the A303 towards London yesterday morning I encountered three of them in a new section of roadworks near the junction with the A36 and in the afternoon on my return they were just completing the painting of the speed marker lines. The other two are covering another new section of roadworks on the M5 near the Gordano services at Bristol ( one north and one south) which looked like new installations on Monday morning.
We all fully appreciate the effort of the Pocket GPS team for the work that goes into updating the database and realise that weekly upates are not practical or really achievable at this time but this new problem of "instant" sites of a "temporary" nature needs some consideration.
Should we consider having a second overlay for "temporary" installations which we run in parallel with the main database due to the dynamic nature of cameras in these types of locations? I am considering running my own system in that way so that it is not affected by any later issues of the main database but would obviously prefer to share and receive data with other users for other areas of travel. As a new member to this website I may not be aware of previous discussions on this topic and I would also like to ask if there any preferred methods for live sharing of locations. Obviously I would prefer not to be the first person that encounters any of them !
If a post is fitted / road marking then I think this should be added as a standard GATSO as there is always a possibility that a camera may be fitted at this location - and the location cant move.
I do think however that we should have a seperate overlay for mobile traps (i.e frequently used locations by police etc). This will then give users the option to run the overlay (obviously with many false positives) or switch this overlay off.

I have started to compile a mobile POI Overlay, at present there are only a handful of locations recorded. Although this is very much work in progress it's available for download in the POI section of my personal site here and will eventually be hosted here once it has sufficient entries to justify it.
I have craeted a new Icon to indicate the fact that as a mobile location it may or may not be active.
If anyone knows of regular mobile haunts then feel free to add them to this POI and submit to cameras @ as usual and I will add to the master file and publish here. _________________ Darren Griffin
great! I will submit some more sites to you later this week.
How are we classing tempoary GATSO cameras (i.e locations with the electrics and road markings for the camera - but not there all the time?)
Are we going to add these into the main database as live gatsco (as the installation is permanent) even if the camera is/is not there? and then keep the mobile overlay for truely mobile cameras/police haunts etc?
