Is it worth me upgrading my 13 year old Garmin 60CSx (used to be my Dads only recently started using it again) with Topo 1:50 on to the newer 64sx? The reason I'm thinking of upgrading is newer tech and purchasing newer maps as mine are now 2007 version and also the updates for the device. The last update for the 60 was 2009 which I did last week.

Only you can answer that, but I upgraded from an Etrex Legend to an Etrex 20 and was very happy with it.

I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 64CSX about six months ago - and wish I hadn't. I waited too long and can no longer take it back.

I came from a Magellan Meridian Platinum (a million years old now - ahem) and I loved that unit. It was extremely intuitive and easy to use. A bit slow locking on to satellites by today's standards, but worth the wait.

This new GPS is the most non-intuitive unit I have ever owned, and I've owned many in the past 20+ years. Trying to navigate those pages and menus is maddening! I've watched several YouTube vids and they are mostly useless. My main use is for Geocaching, and this unit has me climbing the wall. I hate to dump it. It was not cheap.

I am going back to my tried and true Magellan Meridian, slow satellite connections and all. Plus, this old Magellan still used their fabulous MapSend TOPO CD that allows you to load TOPO maps of any state in the country. Nobody offers that nowadays, and even Magellan gave up in the hand-held GPS works. Dang it!

Garmin handhelds are simple enough when you know how. The main issue is setting up the pages so they do what you want, they are extremely customizable and once done that's it unless you decide to change data fields etc.

You may find this helps:

which although it's written for the Etrex should be similar to your 64
