Thanks yes, I picked up on the SpeedTrapAlert App on some other threads, I will give it a go, obviously its a bit more convenient using the CamerAlert App, as it automatically updates the database. That's the price of progress I guess.

Hopefully, in time, STA can have an easier update route.

I download the STA database via my tablet to Google Drive tben update STA on my phone from there.

I find navigsting here in a phone too fiddly for a codger

Reminds me of the olden days when I had to manually update the data base for TomTom on my phone. What you need is a bigger phone :-).

But you still need to pay your PGPSW subs for access to the database.

Yep, a lot of these complaints with the intention of leaving are chucking the baby out with the bath water.

Also a long term user of CA and have converted many others to using it, however my Galaxy S9+ recent update to Android 10 has resulted in the app no longer working; it just crashes on opening.
I'm aware of the Speed Trap Alert app (email from support told me about it) but I would much rather use the genuine CA app.

My question is .... Will there be any update to the CA app to make it compatible?

'We' don't know and 'they' are not telling.
Get used to STA with the PGPSW database. You know it makes sense.

These things happen in life, when mobile software is updated and it is a real pain to say the least

I do appreciate that PockerGPSWorld has flagged this up when know and a work around posted on the website so we can atleast continue using the SpeedTrapAlert App with the database as a short term arrangement.

This is a huge shame as Cameralert is far superior App to SpeedTrapAlert in a lots of ways.

Could I ask, that PockerGPSWorld sets up somewhere on the website a place that those affect by the current problems can register to be informed immediately when Cameralert App works again with the Samsung mobiles effected.

Many thanks.

I really can't believe that this is still a live thread.

Ca probably shan't ever come back. So, if you really want it to continue using CA, resurect an old phone you have laying in a drawer somewhere or buy a very cheap second hand one, install CA and keep it in your car. It won't need a sim card, you can hot spot to it from your everyday phone.

The solution is simple.

'Probably' is the key word.

We have had no confirmation from anyone senior even though they must be aware. If the source code is lost then just tell us and maybe give STA better update access.

I'm quite happy with STA now I understand it. Just trying to get STA running in the background with Google Maps on top, in view, so I can ditch my Garmin PND.

Or (currently), an A51 running Android 11 ;)

I've had a look at CA in Android Studio to get better crash info.

From what I can tell CA is still pointing at an old version of Java via an old AndroidSDK.

Android 10 brought some significant changes and all developers were told to update the 'gradle' to point to the newer SDK and Java model.

I'm no expert and even with the source code I'd be lost.

However, it does look like just a few pointers need changing but that would require the source code as Android Studio only decrypts some code.

I think this may be the problem. The latest SDK version for Android 11 is 30, Android 10 was 29.

When I run the APK in Android Studio this is where I 'think' the error lies:
