Installation of PGPSW Speed Camera info on Tomtom Nav3 Units

Unfortunately the installation advice for these units such as the GO 1000/1005 is out of date. TT have updated their MyDrive Connect software so it will only accept ov2 files not bmp or ogg. It doesn't look like it is possible to run an old version without it immediately updating to the "useless" new version! That is unless anybody knows any better?

Unfortunately, it's TomTom that has messed things up for us.

Any TomTom PND that runs NAV2 (i.e. uses TomTom Home) can import .ov2, .bmp, .ogg files to show where the speed cameras are and to provide audio proximity alerts if the PND is set up correctly.

All newer TomTom PNDs that run NAV3 or higher (i.e. use TomTom Connect) can only import .ov2 files for navigating to. You cannot show them on the screens (map or navigation) nor can you set up proximity alerts.

If you have a TomTom PND that runs NAV3 or higher then your only hope is to run CamerAlert (Android or iPhone) or Speedtrap Alert (Android) on a smartphone alongside your SatNav to provide you with alerts from the PGPSW camera database. Alternatively get a Garmin LMT-D SatNav but as a TomTom user, you may not like a Garmin.

Thanks for the post. I am aware of all that. My point is that the PGPSW installation advice for Nav3 PNDs is no longer valid. It was correct for an earlier version of TomTom Connect. It appears that this version, if downloaded, immediately updates to the useless later version. Unless someone knows otherwise.

I have bought a Go 5200 for the lifetime traffic & maps and, as you suggest, could run Cameralert in parallel on my mobile phone.

My personal view (i.e. nothing to do with PGPSW) is that the ability to load POIs with BMPs so that speed cameras will appear on the screen has long passed into the realm of history.

My last TomTom PND was a 950 Live (I think it was Nav2). There cannot be many TomTom PNDs still functioning that can be loaded with PGPSW speed camera files, including the PNDs listed on the Speed Camera Database Installation Guide: TomTom GO 1000, 1005, 2000, 800 Series, VIA, Start 20/25, 60 Series and variants (NAV3), and those that are still functioning then I would expect their owners to already know how to load the files.

So, I don't know if it's worth rewriting instructions that were first published in 2011, i.e. over eight years ago as I write this reply. Eight years is a lifetime in the SatNav world.

I agree that rewriting the installation guide may be unneccessary but a simple statement on the application guide advising that only ov2 files can be imported and therefore no voice warnings and no icons on the map might suffice.

As far as the existence of old TT models, I have a Go 950 and a Go 750. If you look on eBay you will still see lots of old models around.
